Sylvester Uphus
Sylvester Bernard Uphus (December 29, 1927 – January 1, 2017) was an American farmer and politician. Born on a farm near Greenwald, Minnesota, Uphus served in the United States Navy during World War II. He went to the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University after which he became a farmer. He served on the Ashley Township board. He served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1983–92 as an Independent Republican. He lived in Sauk Centre, Minnesota. A nephew was Steve Dehler Steve Dehler (born March 21, 1950) is an American politician and businessman. Born in St. Cloud, Minnesota, Dehler attended the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University where he studied accounting and economics. Sauk Centre is a city in Stearns County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 4,555 at the 2020 census. Sauk Centre is part of the St. Cloud Metropolitan Statistical Area. Sauk Centre is the birthplace of Sinclair Lewis, a novelist and winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature. It inspired his fictional Gopher Prairie, the setting of Lewis's 1920 novel '' Main Street''. The College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University are two closely related private, Catholic higher education institutions in Minnesota.
