Sylvester Heereman
Sylvester Heereman van Zuydtwyck (born 10 September 1974) is the former Vicar General of the Catholic congregation, the Legion of Christ. Family Heereman was born in Bad Neustadt an der Saale, Bavaria, on 10 September 1974. Seminary and priesthood In 1994 Heereman entered the Legion's novitiate in Germany. He was ordained on 23 December 2006. From 2007-11 he was the territorial director of Germany, and then Northern and Central Europe. Vicar General of the Legion and Regnum Christi On 16 February 2012 Heereman was named to his new post of Vicar General by Cardinal Velasio de Paolis. The Vicar General is second in command after the General Director. He had replaced Father Luis Garza, who resigned to become territorial director of North America, and he was named after consulting the members of the Legion of Christ. Vicar General
A vicar general (previously, archdeacon) is the principal deputy of the bishop or archbishop of a diocese or an archdiocese for the exercise of administrative authority and possesses the title of local ordinary. As vicar of the bishop, the vicar general exercises the bishop's ordinary executive power over the entire diocese and, thus, is the highest official in a diocese or other particular church after the diocesan bishop or his equivalent in canon law. The title normally occurs only in Western Christian churches, such as the Latin Church of the Catholic Church and the Anglican Communion. Among the Eastern churches, the Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Kerala uses this title and remains an exception. The Legionaries of Christ (in , abbreviated L.C.) is a Catholic Church, Roman Catholic religious congregation of pontifical right founded on January 3, 1941, by the Mexican Catholic priest Marcial Maciel. It belongs constitutively to the spiritual family of Regnum Christi together with the Consecrated Women of Regnum Christi and the Lay Consecrated Men of Regnum Christi. The novitiate, also called the noviciate, is the period of training and preparation that a Christian ''novice'' (or ''prospective'') monastic, apostolic, or member of a religious order undergoes prior to taking vows in order to discern whether they are called to vowed religious life. Velasio de Paolis, C.S., JCD, STL (19 September 1935 – 9 September 2017), was an Italian member of the Missionaries of St. Charles Borromeo (Scalabrinians) and a cardinal of the Catholic Church. Luis Garza Medina is a Roman Catholic priest of the Legion of Christ who previously served as its Vicar General, Territorial Director of North America, and Spiritual Director in Manila, Philippines. Medina currently resides in Monterrey, Mexico. Biography Garza was born and raised in Monterrey, Mexico. He has a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from Stanford University. He entered the Legion of Christ in 1978. Garza was Vicar General of the Legion from 1992 until 2011. In 2006, Garza investigated serious charges of sexual abuse of minors by Legion founder Marcial Maciel, which were later verified. A chapter ( or ') is one of several bodies of clergy in Catholic, Old Catholic, Anglican, and Nordic Lutheran churches or their gatherings. Name The name derives from the habit of convening monks or canons for the reading of a chapter of the Bible or a heading of the order's rule. Álvaro Corcuera Martínez del Río LC (22 July 1957 – 30 June 2014) was a Mexican Roman Catholic priest.
