Sylvan Edwards
Sylvan Edwards (born 1979) is an English rugby union player who plays at either Centre or on the Wing. He is currently in his second spell with Bristol side Dings Crusaders where he became one of the top try scorers in National League 2 South history, with 69 tries in his first nine seasons spent at the club. Sylvan has also been capped by the Gloucestershire county side. Career First Spell with Dings After starting his career with Avonmouth Old Boys, Sylvan signed for fellow Bristol side, Dings Crusaders in 2002, and his debut season was a success as his club won South West Division 1 and gained promotion to the National Leagues. The 2003–04 season in National Division 3 South saw Ding's just avoid relegation, five points clear of 13th placed Basingstoke, with Sylvan contributing a respectable 10 tries in a Ding's side that were the lowest points scorers in the division. Centre (rugby Union)
In the game of rugby union, there are 15 players on each team, comprising eight forwards (wearing jerseys numbered 1–8) and seven backs (numbered 9–15). In addition, there may be up to eight replacement players "on the bench", numbered 16–23. Players are not restricted to a single position, although they generally specialise in just one or two that suit their skills and body types. Players that play multiple positions are called "utility players". Forwards compete for the ball in scrums and Line-out (rugby union), line-outs and are generally bigger and stronger than the backs. The 2003–04 National Division Three South was the fourth season (17th overall) of the fourth division (south) of the English domestic rugby union competition using the name National Division Three South. New teams to the division included Launceston who were relegated from the 2002–03 National Division Two while promoted clubs included Southend (champions) and Haywards Heath (playoffs) coming up from London Division 1 and Dings Crusaders as champions of South West Division 1. EDF Energy Trophy
The EDF National Trophy was a cup competition which ran from 2006 to 2009 for the 118 clubs of the Rugby Football Union from National Division One and below. Previously these teams had played in the Powergen Cup, but were excluded from that cup under a new format adopted for the 2005–06 season. The Trophy was replaced by the British and Irish Cup from the 2009–10 season. The EDF National Trophy retained the knock-out structure of the old Powergen Cup. In addition to gate receipts, prize money was awarded on an elimination basis.
