Syed Wahiduzzaman Diamond is a Bangladeshi filmmaker. He won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Director for his direction of the film ''Gangajatra'' (2009). Career In 2006, Diamond directed a film ''Nacholer Rani'', based on the life of the peasant activist Ila Mitra. He directed ''Gangajatra'' in 2009 which won National Film Awards in eight categories and Bachsas Awards in seven categories. Bangladesh National Film Award For Best Director
National Film Award for Best Director ( bn, জাতীয় চলচ্চিত্র পুরস্কার) is the highest award for film directors in Bangladesh, presented annually at Bangladesh National Film Awards ceremony by the Ministry of Information. It is given in honour of a film director who has exhibited excellence directing in Bangladeshi cinema. Since 1975, the award is given annually except in 1981, 1998 and 2003. It is presented by the President of Bangladesh at a ceremony held in Dhaka. The 1st National Film Awards ceremony was held in 1976, and Narayan Ghosh Mita was the first awardee of this category for directing the film '' Lathial'' (1975). Since its inception, a total of 43 awards have been given to 32 directors. A. J. ''Gangajatra'' ( bn, গঙ্গাযাত্রা; also known in English as ''The Journey'') is a Bangladeshi film written and directed by Syed Wahiduzzaman Diamond. This film was shown at "Kolkata International Film Festival" in 2010. Plot Rupa's (Shimla) husband sells her and her daughter Nipa (Sabrina) to a whore house for money. There Rupa wants to get back her usual life and believed her client Ratan (Sacchu) but he betrayed with her. in the meantime, whore house owner insists her to serve the clients in front of her child. As a result, she gets frustrated with her life and commit suicide along with her child. Prokash (Ferdous) and Sudhamoni (Popy) carried these two dead body for funeral. Bachsas ( Bangladesh Cholochitra Sangbadik Samity) Awards was introduced in 1972 to encourage the fledgling film industry of the country. Bangladesh Cholochchitra Shangbadik Samity (Bangladesh Cine-Journalists' Association) gave out their most prestigious awards to outstanding performers in film, television, music, dance and theatre. ''Nacholer Rani'' (Queen of Nachol) is a 2006 Bangladeshi film. It is based on the early 1950s Santhal people uprising in Nachol Upazila in Chapai Nawabganj District, East Bengal and the role of social activist and reformer Ila Mitra. The film was the feature-length debut of director Syed Wahiduzzaman Diamond. Plot summary In 1950, Mitra took up the cause of the Santhals. She was married to Ramendra Nath Mitra, a Zamindar of Ramchandrapur in Nachol. She left her lavish life and fought for the ill-treated Santhals. She garnered recognition for her dedication to their cause. She was treated as an uncrowned queen by the Santhals. They gave her the title ''Rani Ma (Queen mother)''.
