Syed Mokhtar Shah bin Syed Nor Albukhary (born 12 December 1951) is a Malaysian business tycoon and philanthropist. Recognised as the 11th richest individual in Malaysia by Forbes in 2025, Syed Mokthar is estimated to have a net worth of US$2.2 billion. Through holdings such as the MMC Corporation and DRB-HICOM, Syed Mokthar is reported to be the leading figure in Malaysia's rice, sugar, ports, postal, and power generation sectors, and owns the national car company Proton. He is also a key figure in the engineering, construction, and property business.
