Syed Amin Aljeffri
Dato' Syed Amin Aljeffri (born 10 November 1947 in Sungai Petani) is a Malaysian entrepreneur. Life Syed Amin Aljeffri belongs to a Malaysian noble family. The name Syed indicates their descendance from the Islamic prophet Muhammad. Aljeffri was born on 10 November 1947 in Sungai Petani, Kedah. He attended the primary school in Sungai Petani and continued his secondary education at the traditional Victoria Institution in Kuala Lumpur. In 1968, he started his studies in Economics, specialising in Accounting, at the University of Malaya and graduated in 1971 with a bachelor's degree. He started his professional career with ESSO Malaysia. By September 1973, he obtained the degree of a Certified Accountant and served at the international accounting firm of Touche Ross & Co. in Vancouver. Sungai Petani
Sungai Petani (abbr. Sg. Petani or SP; Jawi: سوڠاي ڤتاني) is a city in Kuala Muda District, Kedah, Malaysia. Sungai Petani is Kedah's largest city and is located about 55 km south of Alor Setar, the capital of Kedah, and 33 km northeast of George Town, the capital city of the neighbouring state of Penang. Etymology The name of the municipality is taken from the name of a river, which is ''Sungai Petani'' (Petani River), a tributary of Merbok River. The word ''Petani'' might be related to the province of Pattani in Thailand. The word is said to derive from a Sanskrit word 'pathini', meaning "virgin nymph"; Pathini was the name of a daughter of Merong Mahawangsa, founder of the preceding Langkasuka Empire. The Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (KLSE; ms, Bursa Saham Kuala Lumpur) dates back to 1930 when the Singapore Stockbrokers' Association was set up as a formal organisation dealing in securities in Malaya. In 1937, it was re-registered as the Malayan Stockbrokers' Association, but it still did not trade public shares. The ''New Straits Times'' is an English-language newspaper published in Malaysia. It is Malaysia's oldest newspaper still in print (though not the first), having been founded as ''The Straits Times'' on 15 July 1845.
