Sydney Prague
The Sydney Football Club Prague, commonly known as ''Sydney Prague'' or just ''Prague'', was a former association football club formed in 1951 by predominantly Czech Australians, which participated in the NSW State League from its foundation in 1957 until its amalgamation with Yugal at the beginning of the 1973 season. Sydney Prague were one of the most successful sides of the late 1950s and early 1960s, consistently finishing high in leagues and cups. Prague were one of the first club sides to bring fast, attacking European style play to Australia, due to the influx of European ex-international players to the club in the late 1950s. Czech Australian
Czech Australians are Australians, Australian citizens of Czechs, Czech ancestry. Most Czech immigrants to Australia came after World War II and 1968–1969. Most recently the biggest influx is of students coming to Australia to study English and to find work. Many of them are deciding to stay by gaining permanent residency. According to 2016 census figures, around 24,500 Australians identify as having Czech ancestry, mostly in Melbourne and Sydney. Herbert Ninaus
Herbert Ninaus (31 March 1937 in Voitsberg - 24 April 2015) was an Austrian-Australian international Football player and manager. Career Herbert Ninaus began his career at FC St. Veit, after which he, and later his brother, moved to first division side GAK. The winger soon debuted in the Austrian league in the 1954/55 season, becoming a regular player. After a strong 1957/58 season, scoring 24 goals in 25 games, Herbert Ninaus was called up for the 1958 World Cup but was not used. He was needed only a short time later, however, making his international debut against Yugoslavia on 5 October 1958 and celebrated the occasion by scoring a goal. During the winter break in 1958/59, Ninaus decided to emigrate to Australia, where he played at Sydney Prague and was a member of their New South Wales Division One championship winning team in 1959. 1978 World Cup
The 1978 FIFA World Cup was the 11th edition of the FIFA World Cup, a quadrennial international football world championship tournament among the men's senior national teams. It was held in Argentina between 1 and 25 June. The Cup was won by the host nation, Argentina, who defeated the Netherlands 3–1 in the final, after extra time. The final was held at River Plate's home stadium, Estadio Monumental, in the Argentine capital of Buenos Aires. Rudolf Gutendorf (30 August 1926 – 13 September 2019) was a German football manager, renowned for managing the highest number of national teams – a total of 18 teams plus Iran's Olympic team in 1988 and the China Olympic team in 1992. Gutendorf holds a Guinness World Record for coaching 55 teams in 32 countries, across six continents. Playing career He played for TuS Neuendorf, Blue Stars Zürich and Luzern. ES Marks Athletics Field
ES Marks Athletics Field is located in Kensington, Sydney, Australia. It was built in 1906 as Sydney Athletics Field. In 1947 a cinder track was installed and it was renamed ES Marks Athletics Field after athletics administrator Ernest Samuel Marks. In 1956 a grandstand was built. Tommy Docherty
Thomas Henderson Docherty (24 April 1928 – 31 December 2020), commonly known as The Doc, was a Scottish football player and manager. Docherty played for several clubs, most notably Preston North End, and represented Scotland 25 times between 1951 and 1959. He then managed a total of 13 clubs between 1961 and 1988, as well as the Scotland national team. Docherty was manager of Manchester United between 1972 and 1977, during which time they were relegated to the Second Division but promoted back to the First Division as champions at the first attempt.
