Sydkraft AB is a power company headquartered in Malmö, Sweden. It is a subsidiary of the international energy group Uniper for operations in Sweden. The company is engaged in the generation of thermal, nuclear, and hydro power. The history of Sydkraft reaches back to 1906; however, the current company was created as a result of the split of Uniper from another international energy group E.ON. History Sydkraft was founded in 1906 as Sydsvenska Kraftaktiebolaget with August Schmitz as CEO. Originally, the company was producer of hydroelectricity. Anders Björgerd (8 November 1920 – 18 July 2017) was a Swedish businessman who was deputy CEO of Sweden's largest publicly listed utility, Sydkraft (now E.ON Sverige AB ), between the years 1970-1987. He started his career as a trainee with Siemens AG, and later gained employment with Swedish engineering firm ASEA before embarking on his career path with Sydkraft in Malmö, Sweden. OKG AB (''Oskarshamns Kraftgrupp AB'') is a Swedish corporation who owns and operates the Oskarshamn Nuclear Power Plant. It is majority owned by Sydkraft. The three reactors, Oskarshamn 1–3, manufactured by ASEA Atom, were put into operation in 1972, 1974, and 1985, respectively. At the reactor site, some 30 km north of Oskarshamn, OKG used to operate CLAB – Sweden's central interim storage facility for radioactive waste. Oskarshamn Nuclear Power Plant
The Oskarshamn Nuclear Power Plant is one of three active nuclear power stations in Sweden. The plant is about north of Oskarshamn, directly at the Kalmarsund at the Baltic Sea coast and with one active reactor, producing about 10% of the electricity needs of Sweden. All reactors were built using BWR technology. Unit 1 had an installed output of 494 MW and Unit 2 664 MW; these are now decommissioned. Unit 3, the newest reactor block at the facility, has an installed output of 1,450 MW. Clab, the temporary storage facility for spent nuclear fuel from all Swedish reactors, is also located at the site.
