Sydenham Benoni Alexander (December 8, 1840June 14, 1921) was a United States Democratic Party, Democratic United States House of Representatives, U.S. Congressman from North Carolina between 1891 and 1895. Early life Alexander, born near Charlotte, North Carolina in 1840, attended preparatory schools in Rocky River (North Carolina), Rocky River and Wadesboro, North Carolina, Wadesboro and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1860. Alfred Rowland
Alfred Rowland (February 9, 1844 – August 2, 1898) was a U.S. Representative from North Carolina. Born in Lumberton, North Carolina, Rowland attended the common schools in the area. He entered the Confederate States Army in May, 1861 and served as a lieutenant in Company D, Eighteenth Regiment of North Carolina State Troops, until May 12, 1864. He was then imprisoned at Fort Delaware until June 1865. After the war, he studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1867 and commenced practice in Lumberton. Afterwards, he served as a member of the State house of representatives in 1876, 1877, 1880, and 1881. Rowland was elected as a Democrat to the Fiftieth and Fifty-first Congresses (March 4, 1887 – March 3, 1891). However, he was not a candidate for renomination in 1890. John Sharp Williams (July 30, 1854September 27, 1932) was a prominent American politician in the Democratic Party from the 1890s through the 1920s, and served as the Minority Leader of the United States House of Representatives from 1903 to 1908. Early life Williams was born in Memphis, Tennessee, but raised in Yazoo County, Mississippi, after he was orphaned during the American Civil War. After graduating from the Kentucky Military Institute in 1870, he studied at the University of the South before transferring to the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, where he was Phi Beta Kappa but did not complete all his science courses for his bachelor's degree.
