Swiss Green Party
The Green Party of Switzerland (; ; ; ) is a green political party in Switzerland. It is the fifth-largest party in the National Council of Switzerland and the largest party that is not represented on the Federal Council. History The first Green party in Switzerland, MPE, was founded as a local party in 1971 in the town of Neuchâtel. In 1979, Daniel Brélaz was elected to the National Council as the first Green MP on the national level (in Switzerland and in the world). Local and regional Green parties and organisations were founded in many different towns and cantons in the following years. In 1983, two different national green party federations were created: in May, diverse local green groups came together in Fribourg to form the ''Federation of Green Parties of Switzerland'', and in June, some left-alternative groups formed the ''Green Alternative Party of Switzerland'' in Bern. Lisa Mazzone
Lisa Marie Mazzone (; ; born 25 January 1988) is a Swiss politician who currently serves as President of the Green Party of Switzerland since 2024. She previously served as a member of the Council of States (Switzerland) from 2019 to 2023, the National Council (Switzerland) from 2015 to 2019 and on the Grand Council of Geneva from 2013 to 2015. Mouvement Populaire Pour L'environnement
The People's Movement for the Environment (fr: ) was the first Swiss environmentalist party. It was founded in Switzerland in December 1971 in order to oppose a freeway planned to pass through the town of Neuchâtel. History In 1972, the party stood for elections for the town legislature. The election was a major success: the MPE received 17.8% of the votes, and 8 out of 41 seats. The MPE already dealt, in the 1970s, with subjects which became those of the Green Party of Switzerland: land development, particularly urban land development; resisting large road projects; and the protection of the natural environment. In the 1976 elections, the MPE again obtained good results, with 7 out of 41 seats on the General Council of Neuchâtel. The Green Liberal Party of Switzerland (, GLP; , PVL; , PVL; , PVL), is a green-liberal political party in Switzerland. Founded in 2007, the party holds eleven seats in the Federal Assembly as of the October 2023 election. The party was formed on 19 July 2007 by four cantonal branches of the Green Party. Contesting the election in October 2007 in St. Gallen and Zurich, the party won three seats in the National Council. A month later, the party won a seat in the Council of States, with Verena Diener representing Zurich. Verena Diener
Verena Diener (27 March 1949 – 28 June 2024) was a Swiss politician. A member of the Green Liberal Party of Switzerland she represented the canton of Zürich in the National Council from 1987 to 1998 and in the Council of States from 2007 to 2015. From 1995 to 2007, she was a member of the cantonal government of Zurich. In 2004, Diener left the Green Party, founding the Green Liberal Party together with National Councillor and former president of the Zurich Green Party, Martin Bäumle.
