Penhill F.C., known for its final three years as Swindon Athletic F.C., was a semi-professional football club based in the Penhill area of Swindon, England. They played in the Hellenic Football League. In 1992 they merged with fellow Wiltshire Football League founder members, league, and local rivals Supermarine F.C., to create Swindon Supermarine F.C. History The club was established in 1968 and known as Penhill F.C. until the end of the 1988–89 season when it took the name Swindon Athletic F.C.. They were founder members of the Wiltshire Football League in 1976, but started two divisions lower in Section A of the Junior Division. That season saw the club promoted and become Wiltshire Junior Cup winners. The next season saw them become Senior Division 2 champions and they went on to become Senior Division 1 champions in the 1982–83 and 1983–84 campaigns. The Hellenic Football League, currently known as the Uhlsport Hellenic Football League for sponsorship reasons, is an English men's football league covering an area including the English counties of Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, southern Buckinghamshire, southern Herefordshire, southern Warwickshire, northern Wiltshire and southern Worcestershire. The Wiltshire Football League is a football league in England, formed by amalgamation in 1976. All clubs are affiliated to a County Football Association. The area covered by the competition is the county of Wiltshire and 15 miles beyond the county boundary. The league sits at Step 7 of England's National League System pyramid, and since season 2014–15 has operated one senior division, an U18 Youth Floodlight Division and two Veterans (Over 35's) Division. Supermarine F
Supermarine was a British aircraft manufacturer that is most famous for producing the Spitfire fighter plane during World War II as well as a range of seaplanes and flying boats, and a series of jet-powered fighter aircraft after World War II. The company had successes in the Schneider Trophy for seaplanes, with three wins in a row of 1927, 1929 and 1931. The company was founded in 1913 as Pemberton-Billing Ltd on the River Itchen close to Woolston, Southampton, on ground previously purchased by Noel Pemberton Billing to construct motor launches. It produced a couple of prototypes using quadruplane designs to shoot down zeppelins, the Supermarine P.B.29 and the Supermarine Nighthawk.
