Swift Current—Grasslands—Kindersley is a federal electoral district (Canada), electoral district in Saskatchewan, Canada, that was created in the 2022 Canadian federal electoral redistribution. Compared to its predecessor riding, Cypress Hills—Grasslands, Swift Current—Grasslands—Kindersley loses the town of Assiniboia, Saskatchewan, Assiniboia but has added new territory in the north, incorporating Biggar, Saskatchewan, Biggar and Rosetown, Saskatchewan, Rosetown. It is partially named after Grasslands National Park. Geography The district occupies the southwestern corner of the Province of Saskatchewan. History The district was created by representation order in 2023, but inherits most of the former territory of Cypress Hills—Grasslands. Swift Current
Swift Current is the sixth-largest city in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. It is situated along the Trans-Canada Highway west of Moose Jaw, and east of Medicine Hat, Alberta. As of 2024, Swift Current has an estimated population of 18,430, a growth of 1.32% from the 2016 census population of 16,604. The city is surrounded by the Rural Municipality of Swift Current No. 137. History Swift Current's history began with Swift Current Creek which originates at Cypress Hills and traverses of prairie and empties into the South Saskatchewan River at Lake Diefenbaker. The creek was a camp for First Nations for centuries. The name of the creek comes from the Cree, who called the South Saskatchewan River meaning "it flows swiftly". Fur traders found the creek on their westward treks in the 1800s, and called it "rivière au Courant" (lit: "river of the current").
