Swift Creek (Virginia)
Swift Creek is a U.S. Geological Survey. National Hydrography Dataset high-resolution flowline dataThe National Map accessed April 1, 2011 river in the U.S. state of Virginia. It rises west of Richmond in Powhatan County near U.S. Route 60 and travels southeast through Powhatan County and into Chesterfield County southwest of Hallsboro. Swift Creek flows to the north side of the Swift Creek Reservoir. After a series of twists and turns it courses into Pocahontas State Park, where it then forms Swift Creek Lake. After flowing out of Pocahontas State Park and into southeastern Chesterfield County, it eventually forms the northern boundary of Colonial Heights, where it joins the Appomattox River. Powhatan County () is a county located in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 30,033. Its county seat is Powhatan. Powhatan County is included in the Greater Richmond Region. The James River forms the county's northern border, and the Appomattox River is on the south side. The county is named for the paramount chief of the powerful confederacy of tribes of Algonquian-speaking Native Americans in the Tidewater in 1607, when the British settled at Jamestown. Historically this Piedmont area had been occupied by the Siouan-speaking Monacan. They moved further west, abandoning villages in this area, under pressure from colonists. In 1700 French Huguenot refugees settled at a Monacan abandoned village, which they renamed as Manakin Town. It was located about 20 miles above the falls on the James River. French refugees also settled on the other side of the river in two villages now known collectively as Manakin-Sabot in nearby Goochland County ... Colonial Heights is an independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 18,170. Chesterfield County is located just south of Richmond in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The county's borders are primarily defined by the James River to the north and the Appomattox River to the south. Its county seat is Chesterfield Court House. Swift Creek Reservoir
The Swift Creek Reservoir is a , , man made lake in Chesterfield County, Virginia. It is deep at the channel and deep on average. It provides 20 percent of the county's water supply, and has a watershed area of . It is fed by eight tributary creeks: Little Tomahawk Creek, Tomahawk Creek, Swift Creek, Otterdale Creek, Deep Creek, West Branch, Dry Creek, and Fuqua Creek.
