Sweetest Chant Stakes
The Sweetest Chant Stakes is a Grade III American Thoroughbred horse race for three year old fillies, over a distance of one and one-sixteenth miles on the turf held annually in late January or early February at Gulfstream Park, Hallandale Beach, Florida. The event currently carries a purse of $175,000. History The race was inaugurated in 1986 and was run on the dirt and named after the winning mare Sweetest Chant who won twelve races in her career including the Grade II Orchid Stakes. The event has been run at several different distances the current distance of one mile and on the turf since 2009 after a lengthy absence of nine years. The event was upgraded to a Grade III event in 2015. The distance for the event was increased to miles in 2022. Irad Ortiz Jr. (born August 11, 1992) is a Puerto Rican jockey who has been a leading rider in the New York Thoroughbred horse racing circuit since 2012. He won his first Breeders' Cup race on Lady Eli in 2014, and his first American Classic on Creator in the 2016 Belmont Stakes. He won the 2022 Belmont Stakes on Mo Donegal. Javier Castellano (born October 23, 1977, in Maracaibo, Zulia State, Venezuela) is a jockey in American Thoroughbred horse racing. Castellano began his riding career in 1996 at Santa Rita and La Rinconada racecourses in Venezuela. In June 1997 he moved to the United States where he rode at race tracks in southern Florida until 2001 when he moved to race on the New York State racing circuit. Joel Rosario (born January 14, 1985) is a Champion jockey in American Thoroughbred horse racing, originally from the Dominican Republic. In the space of five weeks in 2013 he rode the winners of the Dubai World Cup and the Kentucky Derby. More recently, he rode Knicks Go to wins in the Pegasus World Cup, Whitney Stakes, and Breeders' Cup Classic in 2021.
