Sweet Kitty Bellairs (play)
''Sweet Kitty Bellairs'' is a play in a prologue and four acts by David Belasco. It is based on the novel ''The Bath Comedy'' (1900) by married writing team Agnes Castle, Agnes and Egerton Castle. The work premiered at the Lafayette Square Opera House in Washington D.C. on November 23, 1903. The production transferred to Broadway theatre, Broadway; opening at the Belasco Theatre on December 9, 1903. A success, it ran there for a total of 204 performances; closing on June 4, 1904. The production starred Henrietta Crosman in the title role. Others in the cast included Katherine Florence (1874–1952) as Lady Standish, John E. Mae Murray
Mae Murray (born Marie Adrienne Koenig; May 10, 1885 – March 23, 1965) was an American actress, dancer, film producer, and screenwriter. Murray rose to fame during the silent film era and was known as "The Girl with the Bee-Stung Lips" and "The Gardenia of the Screen". Early life Murray was born in New York City, the second-oldest child of Joseph and Mary (née Miller) Koenig. Her maternal grandparents had emigrated from France while her paternal grandparents had emigrated from Germany. She had two brothers, William Robert and Howard Joseph. The family eventually moved to an apartment in the Lower East Side. In May 1896, Murray's father, died from acute gastritis due to his alcoholism. Claudia Dell (born Claudia Dell Smith; January 10, 1909 – September 5, 1977) was an American showgirl and actress of the stage and movies. Early life Dell moved with her mother to New York City in late 1924 or early 1925 to visit Dell's aunt, Claudia Coleman. ''Sweet Kitty Bellairs'' is a 1930 American historical musical comedy film directed by Alfred E. Green. The film is based on the 1903 play '' Sweet Kitty Bellairs'' by David Belasco. Belasco's play was in turn adapted from the novel ''The Bath Comedy'' (1900) by Agnes Castle and Egerton Castle. This novel also served as source material for the 1930 musical film. Shot entirely in Technicolor, the film stars Claudia Dell, Ernest Torrence and, Walter Pidgeon and is set in Bath, England in 1793. Belasco's 1903 play starred Henrietta Crosman. James Young (director)
James Young (January 1, 1872 – June 9, 1948) was an American film director, actor, and screenwriter of the silent era. Before films, Young had a successful career as a stage actor appearing on Broadway and throughout the country, and was the author of a notable 1905 book on theatrical makeup. Young directed more than 90 films between 1912 and 1928. He also appeared as an actor in 60 films between 1909 and 1917. His first wife was librettist Rida Johnson Young who often composed with Victor Herbert. His second wife was film actress Clara Kimball Young, 18 years his junior, who kept his surname after they divorced. James Young died in New York City on June 9, 1948.
