''Sweet Dreams'' is a 2023 Dutch-Swedish drama film written and directed by Ena Sendijarević. The film starring Renée Soutendijk and Hayati Azis, is set on a plantation in the Dutch East Indies around the beginning of the 20th century and offers a critical look at the Dutch colonial past. It premiered at 76th Locarno Film Festival in main competition section on August 5, 2023. In September, it opened the 43rd Netherlands Film Festival, where it was nominated in eight categories and won six awards. Later in the same month, it was selected as Dutch entry in the Best International Feature Film category for the 96th Academy Awards on September 8, 2023. Ena Sendijarević
Ena Sendijarević (born 1987) is an Amsterdam-based Bosnian filmmaker and screenwriter. She is best known for her short film ''Import'' (2016) and her debut feature '' Take Me Somewhere Nice'' (2019). The latter was part of the Cannes ACID programme at the 2019 Cannes film festival and won the Heart of Sarajevo award for Best Feature Film at the 2019 Sarajevo Film Festival. Early life and education Sendijarević was born in 1987 in Odžak, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Later she moved with her family to Modriča, where she remained until the beginning of the Bosnian War. After moving 20 times, including to Berlin, she moved to Amsterdam in 2002. She studied media and culture at the University of Amsterdam and the Freie Universität Berlin. The 68th Valladolid International Film Festival (Seminci) took place from 21 to 28 October 2023, in Valladolid, Spain. '' The Movie Teller'', an adaptation of the Hernán Rivera Letelier's novel, directed by Lone Scherfig, opened the festival.
