The Stereos
The Stereos were an American pop/rock/doo-wop group from Steubenville, Ohio. They began as The Buckeyes around 1955 with members Bruce Robinson and Ronnie Collins, and released two singles on the Cincinnati label Deluxe Records in 1957. In 1959, the group added Leroy Swearingen and released their first single as The Stereos, "A Love for Only You"; it flopped, and Swearingen left the group to be replaced by Nathaniel Hicks. Swearingen, however, wrote the song " I Really Love You", which became their biggest hit, peaking at number 15 on the U.S. Black Singles chart and number 29 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Ken Swearingen (born ) is an American former college football player and coach. He served as the head football coach at El Camino College in Alondra Park, California from 1962 to 1975, Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, California from 1975 to 1994, and the College of the Desert in Palm Desert, California from 2004 to 2005, compiling a career junior college football head coaching record of 253–76–6. His 253 wins are the most of any junior college football coach. Swearingen led his teams to three national titles, at El Camino in 1968, and Saddleback in 1985 and 1992. James Swearingen (born 1947) is an American composer and arranger. He holds a Master’s Degree from the Ohio State University and a Bachelor's degree from Bowling Green State University and is Professor of Music Emeritus, Department Chair of Music Education at Capital University, Columbus, Ohio. The music he writes is part of a small genre played in American high school band classes as Concert Literature, generally two- to six-minute-long pieces played for high school band concerts. Fred Swearingen (September 25, 1921 - December 16, 2016) was a former official in the National Football League (NFL), serving as both a referee and back judge from 1960 through 1980. He wore uniform number 21 for the majority of his career. He worked Super Bowl XIII as a back judge, where he called a controversial pass interference against the Dallas Cowboys' Benny Barnes. Swearingen owned and operated Swearingen's Sporting Goods in Athens, Ohio, United States. On December 23, 1972, Swearingen was the referee for an AFC Divisional Playoff game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Oakland Raiders at Three Rivers Stadium. The Swearingen Merlin or the Fairchild Aerospace Merlin is a pressurized, twin turboprop business aircraft first produced by Swearingen Aircraft, and later by Fairchild at a plant in San Antonio, Texas. Development The Merlin was an evolution of earlier modification programs performed by Swearingen Aircraft. Ed Swearingen started the developments that led to the Merlin through gradual modifications to the Beechcraft Twin Bonanza and Queen Air business aircraft which he dubbed Excalibur. Then a hybrid aircraft was developed, with a new fuselage and vertical fin, mated to salvaged and modified (wet) Queen Air wings and horizontal tails, and Twin Bonanza landing gear: the Merlin. Ellis Alfred Swearengen (July 8, 1845 – November 15, 1904) was an American pimp and entertainment entrepreneur who ran the Gem Theater, a notorious brothel, in Deadwood, South Dakota, for 22 years during the late 19th century. Personal life Swearengen (sometimes spelled Swearingen, Swearengin, Swearngir, etc.) and his twin brother Lemuel were the eldest two of eight children of Dutch American farmer Daniel J. Swearingen and Keziah "Katie" Montgomery of Oskaloosa, Iowa. Swearengen remained at home well into his adult years and only arrived in Deadwood in May 1876, with his wife, Nettie Swearengen. Nettie later divorced him on the grounds of spousal abuse. Swearengen married two more times; both of these marriages ended in divorce.
