Swansea Sound (band)
Swansea Sound are an indie pop band from Kent and Swansea, formed in 2020. The group reunites Amelia Fletcher and Hue Williams, who previously sang together in 1990s indie band The Pooh Sticks. The songs are written by Rob Pursey, Fletchers's husband and long-term musical partner in Heavenly, Marine Research and Tender Trap. Ian Button, formerly of Death in Vegas and Thrashing Doves plays drums. Bob Collins, of The Dentists, plays guitar. History The band adopted the name of Welsh local radio station, Swansea Sound, in September 2020, when it was renamed Greatest Hits Radio South Wales. Formed in 2020, during the Covid pandemic, the band only intended to release a few singles. The first four were ''Corporate Indie Band, I Sold My Soul on eBay, Rock n Roll Void'' and ''Indies Of The World'', the latter of which entered the UK Physical Singles Top 10. Thrashing Doves
Thrashing Doves were an English rock band. Their line-up consisted of Ken Foreman (vocals/guitar) with Brian Foreman (keyboards), Ian Button (guitar) and Kevin Sargent (drums). The original bass player was Hari Sajjan. Subsequent bass players were James Eller, Claire Kenny and Gail Ann Dorsey. Dorsey went on to work with David Bowie and released her own album, '' The Corporate World''. In 1987, Bruce Forest remixed "Jesus on the Payroll" using David Cole on piano. They completed a special "Street Mix" which DJ Paul Oakenfold gives credit for starting the Balearic movement in the late 1980s/early 1990s. The piano lick was sampled for Bocca Juniors. There is some evidence to suggest that their career was irrevocably harmed when British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher expressed fondness for their video for "Beautiful Imbalance" when she saw it on ''Saturday Superstore''. Talulah Gosh
Talulah Gosh were an English guitar-pop group from Oxford, and one of the leading bands of the indiepop movement, taking their name from the headline of an NME interview with Clare Grogan. They supposedly formed in 1986 when Amelia Fletcher and Elizabeth Price, both wearing Pastels badges, met at a club in Oxford. Their original line-up comprised Amelia Fletcher (vocals, guitar, principal songwriter), her younger brother Mathew Fletcher (drums), Peter Momtchiloff (lead guitar), Rob Pursey (bass) and Elizabeth Price (vocals). Pursey left early on, to be replaced by Chris Scott. BBC Radio 6 Music is a British digital radio station owned and operated by the BBC. It primarily plays a wide range of alternative music, from established and emerging artists and bands. In 2002 it was the first national music radio station to be launched by the BBC in 32 years. It is available only on digital media: DAB radio, BBC Sounds, digital television, and throughout northern and western Europe through the Astra 2B satellite. ''Mojo'' (stylised in all caps) is a popular music magazine published monthly in the United Kingdom, initially by Emap, and since January 2008 by Bauer. Following the success of the magazine '' Q'', publishers Emap were looking for a title that would cater for the burgeoning interest in classic rock music. The magazine was designed to appeal to the 30 to 45-plus age group, or the baby boomer generation. ''Mojo'' was first published on 15 October 1993. In keeping with its classic rock aesthetic, the first issue had Bob Dylan and John Lennon as its first cover stars. ''Shindig!'' is a popular music magazine that is published monthly in the United Kingdom. It has been published by Silverback Publishing since 2015. Before that it was published by Volcano Publishing from 2007. History ''Shindig!'' was founded by Jon 'Mojo' Mills in 1992 and was initially published under the name ''Gravedigger'' as a photocopied fanzine that covered garage-punk music. The name ''Shindig!'' was adopted in 1994 to better reflect the broader content of the magazine and pay homage to the American Broadcasting Corporation show of the same name, which brought the British Invasion to the USA. Greatest Hits Radio South Wales (formerly Swansea Sound) is an Independent Local Radio station owned and operated by Bauer Radio as part of the Greatest Hits Radio network. The station broadcasts to Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and Carmarthenshire, South Carmarthenshire from studios in the Llansamlet area of Swansea on DAB. Up until 2022, the station broadcast on 1170 kHz. As of March 2024, the station broadcasts to a weekly audience of 136,000, according to RAJAR.
