Swans Gmunden
Basket Swans Gmunden is an Austrian professional basketball club that is based in Gmunden. Their home arena is Volksbank-Arena Gmunden. The club has won the Austrian Bundesliga six times, its most recent being in 2023. To add to that, the Swans have won seven national Cups as well. The main sponsor of the team used to be Allianz for a long period, in which the team was known as Allianz Swans Gmunden. History The team was founded in 1965, as the basketball section of Union Gmunden. The first match of Union was played in 1966, it was lost 11–35. After six years, the team eventually promoted all the way to the 2. Bundesliga. Gmunden played seven years in the league, than promoted to the 1. Bundesliga. The Austrian Basketball Bundesliga (in German: Österreichische Basketball Bundesliga) was the top men's professional basketball league in Austria. Until the 2004–05 season, the league was known as the A-Liga (A-League) and then until the 2008–09 season it was called the Österreichische Basketball Bundesliga (ÖBL). From 2008 to 2019, it was named the Admiral Basketball League, after the league's main sponsor, Admiral Sportwetten. In 2019, the competition was replaced by the Austrian Basketball Superliga. Competition format In the current season each team plays the other nine teams four times, creating a 36-game regular-season schedule. After that, the top six teams move on. 2007–08 ULEB Cup
The 2007–08 ULEB Cup was the sixth season of the second-tier level European professional club basketball competition, the EuroCup, which is organized by Euroleague Basketball S.L. It was also the last season for the competition under the name of ULEB Cup. The EuroCup is the European-wide league level that is one tier below the EuroLeague level. On July 2, 2008, EuroLeague Basketball S.L. and FIBA Europe announced that the competition would be renamed to the Eurocup, starting with the 2008–09 season. For the first time, 54 teams competed. The Final Eight was held from April 10, to April 13, in Turin, Italy, in the Palavela arena. KÄ™stutis KemzÅ«ra (born 20 April 1970) is a Lithuanian professional basketball coach and former player who is currently the head coach of Juventus Utena of the Lithuanian Basketball League. During his playing career, at a height of tall, he played at the point guard position. Daniel Emil-Luciano Dolenc (born 10 August 1993) is a Finnish professional basketball player who plays for SCM U Craiova (basketball), SCM U Craiova in the Romanian Liga NaÈ›ională (men's basketball), Liga NaÈ›ională. De'Teri Mayes (born August 5, 1974) is a former Austrian-American professional basketball player. Professional career Mayes played in the top-tier level Austrian league, the ÖBL, with the Allianz Swans Gmunden, from the 1999–2000 season, through the 2010–11 season. He also played two seasons with the Austrian club Kapfenberg Bulls, after he signed with them in 2011. 2019–20 Austrian Basketball Superliga
The 2019–20 Austrian Basketball Superliga was the inaugural season of the Basketball Superliga, the newly established top tier league in Austrian basketball. It was the 74th season of the first tier of basketball in Austria. The Kapfenberg Bulls entered the season as the defending national champions winning the 2018–19 ÖBL season. The season was ended prematurely because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Format Teams first play each other in the regular season home and away. After this, teams ranked 1–6 and 7-10 are divided in two groups to qualify for the playoffs. In the playoffs, the best eight teams play each other for the national championship in best-of-five series.
