Swan 108
The Swan 108 is a Finnish maxi yacht that was designed by Germán Frers as a blue water cruiser- racer and first built in 2023. The exterior design is by Lucio Micheletti and the interior design is by Misa Poggi. The boat will be first publicly shown at the 27-30 September 2023, Monaco Yacht Show. Production The design is built by Oy Nautor AB in Finland. It was publicly announced in 2021, followed by a customer order in May 2021 and with construction of the first boat started the same year. The first boat was launched on 9 June 2023 and a second boat was under construction at that time. Design The Swan 108 is a recreational keelboat, built predominantly of carbon fibre with SPRINT epoxy, with wood trim, including a teak-faced deck. It has a fractional sloop rig with a boom-furling mainsail or non-furling square-topped mainsail, with three sets of swept spreaders and carbon fibre spars. Germán Frers
Germán Frers Sr. (born July 4, 1941) is an Argentinian naval architect known for designing racing yachts. He designed his first yacht in 1958 and has been involved in the design of more than 1000 yachts, including '' Kialoa V'' and '' Hyperion'', which, when launched in 1997 was the largest sloop ever made. Yachts designed by the Frers team have won many different yachting events around the world including: the Admiral's Cup, Onion Patch, Bermuda Race, Transpacific, Whitbread Round the World Race, Sardinia Cup, Buenos Aires-Rio Race, S.O.R.C. Monaco Yacht Show
The Monaco Yacht Show (MYS) is an annual trade show in Monaco, organised by the British events and publishing company, Informa. It was launched in 1991 as a broker-oriented event focused on superyachts over in length. It is held in Port Hercules, and is Europe's biggest in-water display of large yachts. In addition to the estimated 125 yachts on display, over 580 exhibitors including brokerage companies, superyacht builders, yacht designers, luxury brands, and luxury automobile companies participate in the event. Throughout the four-day event, there are over 150 private events including press features conferences, receptions and product presentations. Spreader (sailboat)
A spreader is a spar on a sailing boat used to deflect the shrouds to allow them to better support the mast. The spreader or spreaders serve much the same purpose as the crosstrees and tops in a traditional sailing vessel. Spreaders are used to increase the angle between the rigging and the mast, providing better support, and to adjust the mast's shape and bend. This allows the mast and rigging to be lighter and thinner, reducing their total weight.
