Swan 105 RS
The Swan 105 RS (Raised Salon) is a Finnish semi-custom superyacht sailboat that was designed by Germán Frers as a blue water cruiser and first built in 2014. Beiderbeck Designs of Germany did the general arrangement and the interior design. Production The design was built by Oy Nautor AB in Finland, with construction of the first boat starting in 2012, the hull moulded in January 2013 and launched in 2014. Only one boat was built, named ''Ti-Coyo'' and delivered in October 2014. It was later renamed ''Child of Lir''. Design The Swan 105 RS is a recreational keelboat, built predominantly of carbon fibre and E-glass, with wood trim. The hull is made from Gurit's epoxy pre-preg-SP Resin Infusion Technology (SPRINT) sandwich material using vacuum bag moulding. It has a fractional sloop rig, with four sets of swept spreaders and carbon fibre spars. Germán Frers
Germán Frers Sr. (born July 4, 1941) is an Argentinian naval architect known for designing racing yachts. He designed his first yacht in 1958 and has been involved in the design of more than 1000 yachts, including '' Kialoa V'' and '' Hyperion'', which, when launched in 1997 was the largest sloop ever made. Yachts designed by the Frers team have won many different yachting events around the world including: the Admiral's Cup, Onion Patch, Bermuda Race, Transpacific, Whitbread Round the World Race, Sardinia Cup, Buenos Aires-Rio Race, S.O.R.C. A spreader is a spar on a sailing boat used to deflect the shrouds to allow them to better support the mast. The spreader or spreaders serve much the same purpose as the crosstrees and tops in a traditional sailing vessel. Spreaders are used to increase the angle between the rigging and the mast, providing better support, and to adjust the mast's shape and bend. This allows the mast and rigging to be lighter and thinner, reducing their total weight. Vacuum bag moulding is the primary composite manufacturing process for producing laminated structures. It is common in the aerospace industry. Process It utilizes a flexible film to enclose the part and seal it from the outside air. The vacuum bag material is accessible in a tube shape or a sheet of material. Pre-preg is a composite material made from "pre-impregnated" fibers and a ''partially cured'' polymer matrix, such as epoxy or phenolic resin, or even thermoplastic mixed with liquid rubbers or resins.
