Swakeleys House
Swakeleys House is a Grade I-listed 17th-century mansion in Ickenham, London Borough of Hillingdon, England, built in 1638 for the future Lord Mayor of London, Sir Edmund Wright. The house is a leading example of the architectural style known as "Artisan Mannerism", a development of Jacobean architecture led by a group of mostly London-based craftsmen. The many decorative quasi-classical gable ends are a distinguishing mark of the style. Originally the home of the lords of the manor of Swakeleys, the diarist Samuel Pepys visited the house twice. The property changed hands many times over the years and at one time was home to the Foreign & Commonwealth Office Sports Association. Large sections of the grounds were sold off in 1922 and developed as suburban housing. Following a long period of decline, the house was purchased in the 1980s by a group of local residents and restored as part of its conversion to offices. Swakeleys School For Girls
Swakeleys School for Girls is a secondary school and sixth form for girls located in the Hillingdon area of the London Borough of Hillingdon, England. It is the only girls' school in the borough and used to share a site with Abbotsfield School for Boys in Clifton Gardens, until it was rebuilt in 2017, and reformed into the unisex Oak Wood School. After the closure of Abbotsfield School, Swakeleys School became the only single-sex school in the London Borough of Hillingdon. The school was converted to academy status on 1 April 2011 and was previously a Foundation School administered by Hillingdon London Borough Council. The school continues to coordinate with Hillingdon London Borough Council for admissions. The school offers GCSEs and BTECs as programmes of study for pupils. while students in the sixth form have the option to study from a range of A Levels and further BTECs. Hillingdon (Swakeleys)
Hillingdon tube station is a London Underground station in North Hillingdon in the London Borough of Hillingdon, West London. It is on the Uxbridge branches of both the Metropolitan and Piccadilly lines, between Uxbridge and Ickenham tube station, Ickenham stations. The station is located in Travelcard Zone 6. Resited in 1992, it is also the most recently constructed station on the Metropolitan line. History The Metropolitan Railway (Harrow & Uxbridge Railway) constructed the line between Harrow on the Hill tube station, Harrow on the Hill and Uxbridge; this was opened on 4 July 1904, with an intermediate station at Ruislip tube station, Ruislip. At first services were operated by steam trains, before electrification was completed on 1 January 1905.
