Svinndal
Svinndal is a village and parish in the municipality of Våler, Østfold, Norway. The population of the village (2009) is 353. Svinndal shares its coat-of-arms with Våler. Svinndal church (''Svinndal kirke'') was constructed in mixed Gothic and Swiss style during 1856. The church was built of wood based upon an architectural design by Chr. H. Grosch. It replaced a prior church that burned down in 1854. The church is located on Fylkesvei 115 (Fv 115) which runs between Bjørkelangen in Aurskog-Høland and Rødsundet in Våler, Østfold, Våler. Aurskog-Høland is a municipality in Akershus county, Norway. It is part of the Romerike traditional region. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Bjørkelangen. The municipality of Rømskog, in Østfold county was merged into Aurskog-Høland on 1 January 2020. General information Name The new municipality of Aurskog-Høland was created on 1 January 1966 after the merger of the four old municipalities of Aurskog, Nordre Høland, Søndre Høland, and Setskog. The name ''Aurskog'' comes from the old ''Ør'' farm (Old Norse: ''Aurr'' which means "gravel"). Borg is a diocese in the Church of Norway. The diocese includes parishes in the counties of Østfold and Akershus, excluding Asker and Bærum. It was created in 1969 by separation from the Diocese of Oslo. The Cathedral City is Fredrikstad. Fredrikstad Cathedral Fredrikstad Cathedral was designed by architect Waldemar F. Luhr and built in 1880. The cathedral as built of red brick and has a capacity of 1,100 seats. It was originally named Vestre Fredrikstad Church. When Borg diocese was created in 1968, the cathedral changed its name. The cathedral is in the Gothic Revival style. The stained-glass windows by Emanuel Vigeland date from 1917. The richly decorated pulpit and the colourful wooden altar piece, dating back to 1897, were the work of Wilhelm Peters and represents Jesus healing the blind man.
