Sveti Đurađ Monastery
Sveti Đurađ or St. George Monastery ( sr-cyr, Манастир Свети Ђурађ; ) is a medieval Serbian Orthodox monastery located in Mânăstire, Timiș County, Romania, 20 km from the Romanian-Serbian border. It was established in 1485 by Serbian despot Jovan Branković; the present buildings date to 1794, built by Iguman Augustin Petrović as a school and monastic church. Services are held in Serbian and Old Church Slavonic. The last resident of the monastery, Sister Evgenija, died in 2020. Among the relics that the monastic church houses is a fragment of the skull of Saint George, brought here in the 15th century by Đorđe Branković, and a piece of the chain with which Saint Peter was bound. The Serbian Orthodox Church ( sr-Cyrl-Latn, Српска православна црква, Srpska pravoslavna crkva) is one of the autocephalous (ecclesiastically independent) Eastern Orthodox Christian churches. Hodoș-Bodrog Monastery
The Hodoș-Bodrog Monastery is one of the oldest monastic institutions in Romania. It was originally a Roman Catholic (Benedictine) monastery, built before 1177 and destroyed before 1293. The present monastery, which belongs to the Romanian Orthodox Church, was built near the ruins of the first monastery in the late 14th or early 15th century. Benedictine monastery The Benedictine monastery was built for the noble Hodos kindred in Arad County in the Kingdom of Hungary. It was first mentioned as ''ecclesia de Hudust'' in a royal charter, issued in 1177. The monastery was dedicated to Saint Peter, according to a 1278 royal charter. Andrew II of Hungary granted a yearly income of 1000 salt cubes to the abbot. Jovan Isailović
Jovan Isailović Sr. (1756–1825) was a Serbian icon and mural painter who lived and worked in the late eighteenth century and early nineteenth century. In 1772 he started painting an iconostasis in the Church of St. George in Sombor with fellow painters Teodor Kračun and Lazar Serdanović. The iconostasis in the Serbian Orthodox Monastery of Saint George, better known as Sveti Đurađ monastery in Romanian Banat, is also linked to Jovan Isailović Senior, dating from 1803 to 1804, and presenting a strong Byzantine influence. In Eastern Christianity, an iconostasis () is a wall of icons and religious paintings, separating the nave from the sanctuary in a Church (building), church. ''Iconostasis'' also refers to a portable icon stand that can be placed anywhere within a church. The iconostasis evolved from the Byzantine architecture, Byzantine templon, a process complete by the 15th century. The Serbo-Byzantine architectural style or Vardar architectural school (or "style"), is an ecclesiastical architectural style that flourished in the Serbian Late Middle Ages (ca. 1300–1389), during the reign of the Nemanjić dynasty. It was developed through fusing contemporary Byzantine architecture and the Raška architectural school to form a new style; by the mid-14th century the Serbian state had expanded to include southern Macedonia, Epirus and Thessaly up to the Aegean Sea. Constantine VI (, 14 January 771 – before 805), sometimes called the Blind, was Byzantine emperor from 780 to 797. The only child of Emperor Leo IV, Constantine was named co-emperor with him at the age of five in 776 and succeeded him as sole Emperor in 780, aged nine. His mother Irene exercised control over him as regent until 790, assisted by her chief minister Staurakios. The regency ended when Constantine reached maturity, but Irene sought to remain an active participant in the government. Irene of Athens (, ; 750/756 – 9 August 803), surname Sarantapechaena (, ), was Byzantine empress consort to Emperor Leo IV from 775 to 780, regent during the childhood of their son Constantine VI from 780 until 790, co-ruler from 792 until 797, and finally empress regnant and sole ruler of the Eastern Roman Empire from 797 to 802.
