The Sweden Democrats ( , SD ) is a nationalist and right-wing populist political party in Sweden founded in 1988. As of 2024, it is the largest member of Sweden's right-wing bloc and the second-largest party in the Riksdag. It provides confidence and supply to the centre-right ruling coalition. Within the European Union, the party is a member of the European Conservatives and Reformists Party. The party describes itself as social conservative with a nationalist foundation. The party has also been variously characterised by academics, political commentators, and media as economic nationalist, national-conservative, anti-immigration, anti-Islam, Eurosceptic, and right-wing or far-right. The Sweden Democrats reject the far-right label, saying that it no longer represents its political beliefs. Jimmie Åkesson
Per Jimmie Åkesson (; born 17 May 1979) is a Swedish politician and author, serving as leader of the Sweden Democrats since 2005. He has been a member of the Riksdag (SD) for Jönköping County (Riksdag constituency), Jönköping County since 2010 Swedish general election, 2010. He previously served as leader of the Sweden Democratic Youth from 2000 until 2005. Early life and education Jimmie Åkesson was born in Ivetofta in Skåne County, but grew up in Sölvesborg Municipality, Sölvesborg in Blekinge County. Young Swedes ( ) have been the youth section within the Sweden Democrats since 1 October 2015. National spokesperson since October 2024 is Denice Westerberg. According to Jimmie Åkesson, the party leader of the Sweden Democrats, the wing's main goal is to "attract young people to vote for the party". The section itself says that its main task is to "prepare young people to become future Sweden Democratic politicians." They use Engelbrektsbågen as a symbol and describes itself as democratic and socially conservative with a nationalist outlook. Unlike the former youth section Sweden Democratic Youth, the Young Swedes requires that its members are also card carrying members of the Sweden Democrats and follow the party's rules on conduct and political communication. Julia Maria Kronlid (born 16 July 1980) is a Swedish politician and the second deputy of the Sweden Democrats. A member of the Riksdagen since the 2010 general election, she represents the Stockholm County electorate. Biography Early life and career Kronlid is the daughter of toolmaker and seamstress. Sweden Democratic Youth ( ; SDU) was the youth league of the Swedish political party Sweden Democrats until 12 September 2015. History Background The initial version of the youth league was founded in 1993 as an independent organization to its parent party. The original name was (Sweden Democrat's Youth Association), but the organization was soon renamed (Sweden Democratic Youth). The youth league was temporarily disbanded by the SD leadership in 1995 due to rampant problems with neo-Nazism in the ranks. Sweden Party () was a far-right political party in Sweden. It was founded in late 1986 through the merger of '' Bevara Sverige Svenskt'' and the Stockholm branch of the Progress Party. The leader of the party was Stefan Herrmann, formerly the leader of the Progress Party. In October 1987, Herrmann was expelled from the party. His group reconstituted the Progress Party. Henrik Olof Vinge (born 10 August 1988) is a Swedish lawyer and politician and of the Sweden Democrats.
