Svenska Yle
Svenska Yle ( English: ''Swedish Yle'') is the Swedish-language department of Yle, Finland's public service broadcaster for TV, radio and the web. As Finland is constitutionally bilingual—around 5.5% of the population speaks Swedish as their native language—Yle provides radio and TV programming in Swedish. Svenska Yle consists of svenska.yle.fi, Yle X3M, Yle Vega, and Yle Fem. Svenska.yle.fi is Finland's largest Swedish-language media site, which in February 2014 was visited by an average of 199,000 unique browsers per week. The web content includes five regional websites, in Ostrobothnia, Western Uusimaa, Åboland, the Capital Region and Eastern Uusimaa. Swedish TV programs are shown on Yle Fem, which shares a channel with Finnish speaking Yle Teema. Yle X3M
Yle X3M (''Extrem'', ) is a Finnish Swedish-language radio station, owned and operated by Yle. Established in 1997, it is generally aimed at the youth audience broadcasting news, current affairs, entertainment and popular music. The station primarily plays English-language international popular music. It complements Yle's other Swedish-language radio service, Yle Vega, which focuses on mature audiences. , Yle X3M had a technical reach of 48% of Finns older than 9 years old. The daily reach of it and Yle Vega together was 3% of the population over age 9 in 2010, making them together the 10th largest radio "channel" in Finland at the time. Yle Vega (prior to 1 September 2016 – Yle Radio Vega) is a Finnish radio channel broadcasting in the Swedish language. It is operated by Finland's national public service broadcaster Yle, and broadcast news, current affairs, culture and music targeting mature audiences, complements Yle's other Swedish-speaking service, Yle X3M, which targets youth-audiences. It was launched in 1997, replacing Yle's previous full-network service for Swedish-speakers, , which was founded in 1961. , Yle Vega had a technical reach of 83% of Finns older than 9 years old. The daily reach of it and Yle X3M together was 3% of the population over age 9 in 2010, making them together the 10th largest radio "channel" in Finland at the time. Yle Fem (''Yle Five'') was Yle's Finland-Swedish national television channel, providing television programmes in the Swedish language in Finland. It was a public-service channel principally intended for Finland's Swedish-speaking minority. Creating understanding over the language and culture border was also one of the channel's recognized objectives. History Yle Fem was launched in 1988 as a late-evening programming block called FST (Finlands Svenska Television, literally ''"Finland's Swedish Television"'') which was broadcast on Monday nights on Yle TV2 and on Tuesday nights on Yle TV1, after the conclusion of MTV3's Kymmenen Uutiset (10pm evening news) on either channel. Ostrobothnia (; ) is a regions of Finland, region in Western Finland, western Finland. It borders the regions of Central Ostrobothnia, South Ostrobothnia, and Satakunta. It is one of six regions that together form Ostrobothnia (historical province), historical Ostrobothnia, hence it is also referred to as Coastal Ostrobothnia to avoid confusion. Åboland () is a sub-region in the archipelago of the Southwest Finland region in south-western Finland. Åboland and Turunmaa are also informal names of the region, but in this context Särkisalo () is normally included and in the Finnish name Turunmaa also the northern Finnish-speaking part of the archipelago. Whether e.g. Kaarina should be included is unclear. Historically also the inland was included. Yle Teema was a Finnish television channel owned and operated by Finnish public broadcasting company Yle.
