Sveinsdóttir (crater)
Sveinsdóttir is a large, elongated impact crater on Mercury (planet), Mercury. Its dimensions are . Sveinsdóttir crater is a distinctive feature on Mercury's landscape. Unusually elliptical in shape, the crater was produced by the impact of an object that hit Mercury's surface :wikt:oblique, obliquely. The floor of Sveinsdóttir was later covered by the smooth plains material and deformed by wrinkle-ridges before the scarp called Beagle Rupes appeared. More than long and one of the largest fault scarps on the planet, Beagle Rupes marks the surface expression of a large thrust fault believed to have formed as Mercury cooled and the entire planet shrank. Beagle Rupes crosscuts Sveinsdóttir crater and has uplifted the easternmost portion of the crater floor by almost a kilometer, indicating that most of the fault activity at Beagle Rupes occurred after the impact that created Sveinsdóttir. Eminescu Quadrangle
The Eminescu quadrangle (H-9) is one of fifteen quadrangles on Mercury. It runs from 216 to 288° longitude and from -25 to 25° latitude. Named after the Eminescu crater, it was mapped in detail for the first time after ''MESSENGER'' entered orbit around Mercury in 2011. It had not been mapped prior to that point because it was one of the six quadrangles that was not illuminated when ''Mariner 10'' made its flybys in 1974 and 1975. These six quadrangles continued to be known by their albedo feature names, with this one known as the Solitudo Criophori quadrangle. An unnamed, highly modified impact basin is thought to exist to the southwest of the Caloris basin (at 6.5° N, 134.8° E). The basin is referred to as ''b40'' in scientific literature and it is primarily recognized on the basis of a ring-shaped set of wrinkle ridges with a diameter of 310 kilometers. Mercury is the first planet from the Sun. It is a rocky planet with a trace atmosphere. While it is the List of Solar System objects by size, smallest and least massive planet of the Solar System, its surface gravity is slightly higher than that of Mars. The surface of Mercury is similar to Earth's Moon, heavily Impact crater, cratered, with expansive rupes system, generated from thrust faults, and bright ray systems, formed by ejecta. Júlíana Sveinsdóttir
Júlíana Sveinsdóttir (31 July 1889 – 17 April 1966) was one of Iceland's first female painters and textile artists. Taught initially by prominent Icelandic artist Þórarinn B. Þorláksson, Júlíana settled in Denmark and returned to Iceland in the summers, the visits inspiring her landscape paintings, one of which won the Eckersberg Medal in 1947. Júlíana was an active supporter of artists and the arts. She was an early member of the Danish Female Artists' Society, and sat on the boards of the Charlottenborg Exhibition and the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Though best known for her painting, Júlíana Sveinsdóttir was also a significant artist working in textiles, her commissions including a rug that decorated the court chamber of the Supreme Court in Copenhagen. An impact crater is a depression (geology), depression in the surface of a solid astronomical body formed by the hypervelocity impact event, impact of a smaller object. Wrinkle-ridge
A wrinkle ridge is a type of feature commonly found on lunar maria, or basalt plains. These features are low, sinuous ridges formed on the mare surface that can extend for up to several hundred kilometers. Wrinkle ridges are tectonic features created after the lava cooled and solidified. They frequently outline ring structures buried within the mare, follow circular patterns outlining the mare, or intersect protruding peaks. They are sometimes called ''veins'' due to their resemblance to the veins that protrude from beneath the skin. Wrinkle ridges are named with the Latin designation ''dorsum'' (plural ''dorsa''). The standard International Astronomical Union, IAU Planetary nomenclature, nomenclature uses the names of people (generally scientists) to identify wrinkle ridges on the Moon. Beagle Rupes
Beagle Rupes is an escarpment on Mercury, one of the highest and longest yet seen. It was discovered in 2008 when ''MESSENGER'' made its first flyby of the planet. It has an arcuate shape and is about long. The scarp is a surface manifestation of a thrust fault, which formed when the planet contracted as its interior cooled. Beagle Rupes consists of three segments. The central segment trends in the north–south direction and crosscuts the elliptically shaped Sveinsdóttir crater. The dimensions of the latter are . Manley (crater)
Manley is a crater on Mercury. Its name was adopted by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) in 2023, for the Jamaican sculptor, painter, and printmaker Edna Manley, who lived from 1900 to 1987. A name for this crater was allocated at the request of the BepiColombo MCAM team, who realized that it would be prominent in images from BepiColombo's 3rd fly-by of Mercury, but had not yet been named.
