Svein Maalen
Svein Maalen (born 25 February 1978) is a Norwegian football coach. Maalen has previously worked at Rosenborg as a junior coach and worked with analytics. In the 2011 and 2012 season, Maalen was head coach of Kattem IL's women's team. They finished in ninth and eleventh place in the seasons Maalen was in charge of the team. He became assistant coach in Ranheim in 2013, a side then playing in 1. divisjon, the second tier of the Norwegian football league system. Ranheim's head coach Trond Nordsteien was sacked in May 2015, and Maalen took over as an interim head coach for a short period before the position was given to Ola By Rise for the rest of the 2015 season. Svein Maalen was appointed as Ranheim's head coach on a permanent basis in October 2015. He led Ranheim to promotion to Eliteserien by winning the 2017 Eliteserien play-offs. The 2017 Eliteserien Promotion/Relagetion play-offs was the 44th time a spot in the Eliteserien was decided by play-off matches between top tier and second level clubs. At the end of the 2017 season, Aalesund and Viking were relegated directly to 2018 OBOS-ligaen, and were replaced by Bodø/Glimt and Start who were directly promoted. Ranheim is a neighbourhood in the city of Trondheim in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the borough of Østbyen in Trondheim Municipality. The neighbourhood is approximately to the east of the centre of Trondheim. It comprises Olderdalen, Væretrøa, Reppe, and Vikåsen. Historically, Ranheim is a working class community due to paper production at the local paper mill, where an overwhelming majority of Ranheim residents worked. Eliteserien () is a professional association football league in Norway and the highest level of the Norwegian football league system. Contested by 16 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Norwegian First Division. Seasons run from March to November with each team playing 30 matches (playing each other home and away). Most games are played on Sunday evenings. The 2018 Eliteserien was the 74th completed season of top-tier football in Norway. This was second season of Eliteserien as rebranding from Tippeligaen. The season began on 11 March and ended 24 November 2018, not including play-off matches. Fixtures for the 2018 season were announced on 19 December 2017. Rosenborg were the defending champions, while Bodø/Glimt, Start and Ranheim entered as the promoted teams from the 2017 1. divisjon.
