Suzanne Oxenaar
Suzanne Oxenaar (born 1950s-1960s) is a Dutch cultural entrepreneur, designer and co-founder and artistic director of the Lloyd Hotel in Amsterdam. Biography Oxenaar is the daughter of Rudi Oxenaar, former director of the Kröller-Müller Museum, and Thil Oxenaar-van der Haagen (1931-1985). Her brother Aart Oxenaar (1958) is director of the Academy of Architecture in Amsterdam. Oxenaar came into prominence in the late 1980s with the renovation of an old Amsterdam theater into an art center. In 1990 with her own office she managed an art exhibition in Loevestein Castle with artists such as Klaas Gubbels, David van de Kop, Gabriëlle van de Laak and Bořek Šípek. Another of her early adventures was the initiation of the Supper Club in Amsterdam in 1991. Rudi, born Albert Rudolph (January 24, 1928 – February 21, 1973), also known as Swami Rudrananda, was born in Brooklyn, New York. The Benno Premsela Prize is a former Dutch design prize, awarded every two years from 2000 to 2012 by the Mondriaan Fonds to a person who has played a stimulating role in the field of visual arts, design or architecture. The prize is named after designer Benno Premsela, who died in 1997, and who himself had played a central role in post-war Dutch art and design. The prize consisted of a sum of money of 40,000 euros. Lloyd Hotel
Lloyd Hotel is a hotel housed in a historic building in the Eastern Docklands of Amsterdam, commissioned by the Royal Holland Lloyd (Koninklijke Hollandsche Lloyd). Founded as a hotel, it initially housed travelling immigrants. Later, it was used as a detention centre and was also home to artists' studios. It is an official national monument of the Netherlands. History The building was established in 1918 in the eclectic style, designed by architect Evert Breman, commissioned by the Royal Holland Lloyd (KHL). The KHL did use the hotel as advertising, to recruit clients for passengers heading to South America. When it was completed on June 1, 1921, it had cost eight times more than originally estimated, contributing to the subsequent bankruptcy of the KHL. Kröller-Müller Museum
The Kröller-Müller Museum () is a national art museum and sculpture garden, located in the Hoge Veluwe National Park in Otterlo in the Netherlands. The museum, founded by art collector Helene Kröller-Müller within the extensive grounds of her and her husband's former estate (now the national park), opened in 1938. It has the second-largest collection of paintings by Vincent van Gogh, after the Van Gogh Museum. The museum had 380,000 visitors in 2015. Loevestein Castle ( nl, Slot Loevestein) is a medieval castle in the municipality of Zaltbommel, Gelderland, the Netherlands. The castle was built by the knight Dirk Loef of Horne (hence "Loef's stein" (stone) house) between 1357 and 1397. Until World War II Loevestein Castle was part of the Hollandic Water Line, the main Dutch defense line that was based on flooding an area of land south and east of the western provinces. David Van De Kop
David Johannes van de Kop or David Vandekop (The Hague, November 3, 1937 - Dreischor, September 14, 1994) was a Dutch painter, draftsman and sculptor.Biographical data at the Netherlands Institute for Art History Life and work From 1956 to 1961 Kop studied Royal Academy of Art, The Hague among others under Carel Visser, who taught sculpture. Bořek Šípek (14 June 1949 – 13 February 2016) was a Czech architect and designer. Biography Born in Prague, he was renowned for his individual, unusual, colorful, and rich style. He experimented with unexpected and often opulent shapes. Šípek is said to be the father of "neo-baroque". His architectural works and other designs are known worldwide, and his firm retains offices in Amsterdam, Prague, and Shanghai.
