Sussudio
"Sussudio" is a song by English singer-songwriter Phil Collins, released as a single in January 1985. The song is the first track on Collins' third solo studio album, '' No Jacket Required'', released in February of the same year. The song entered frequent rotation on MTV in May; by 6 July both single and album reached No. 1 on their respective US ''Billboard'' charts. The song peaked at No. 12 in the UK Singles Chart. Production and recording Collins has said that he "improvised" the lyric. Collins was just playing around with a drum machine, and the lyric "su-sussudio" was what came out of his mouth. "So I kinda knew I had to find something else for that word, then I went back and tried to find another word that scanned as well as 'sussudio,' and I couldn't find one, so I went back to 'sussudio'", Collins said. ''No Jacket Required'' is the third solo studio album by English drummer and singer-songwriter Phil Collins. It was originally released on 25 January 1985 or 18 February 1985 on Virgin (UK and Ireland), Atlantic (US and Canada) and WEA (rest of the world). It features guest backing vocalists, including Helen Terry, Peter Gabriel (Collins's former Genesis bandmate) and Sting. Some of the songs, like "Don't Lose My Number" and "Sussudio", were based around improvisation. Other songs, like "Long Long Way to Go", had a political message. Philip David Charles Collins (born 30 January 1951) is an English singer, musician, songwriter, record producer and actor. He was the drummer and lead singer of the rock band Genesis and also has a career as a solo performer. Between 1982 and 1990, Collins scored three UK and seven US number-one singles as a solo artist. "One More Night" is the first single in the United States and second in the United Kingdom from Phil Collins' third album, the Diamond-certified ''No Jacket Required''. "One More Night" was Phil Collins' second U.S. No. 1 single, following " Against All Odds", and was his fourth single to reach the top ten in the UK, peaking at No. 4 on the UK Singles Chart. In the U.S., the single entered the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 at number 50 on the chart dated February 9, 1985. It hit number one seven weeks later and remained on top for two weeks. "The Man with the Horn" is a song performed by Genesis drummer Phil Collins, and released as a B-side for two singles from ''No Jacket Required''. The song was originally recorded during sessions for Collins' second album, '' Hello, I Must Be Going!'', in 1982, although It appeared as the B-side to "Sussudio" in the U.K., and as the B-side to " One More Night" in the United States. The song was re-written for an episode of Miami Vice in which Collins guest-starred called "Phil The Shill." The song was renamed "(Life is a) Rat Race.". Princess Victoria (public House)
The Princess Victoria is a public house and former gin palace on the Uxbridge Road, Shepherd's Bush, London W12. First opened in 1829, it closed in June 2017 when its parent company, Affinity Bars and Restaurants, became insolvent, but re-opened in November 2017 under new operators Three Cheers Pub Company. History The Princess Victoria dates from 1829 and was one of London's earliest gin palaces. It was popular with commuters when the tram began carrying 1,000 passengers a day between Acton and the Uxbridge Road. Commuters could enjoy a "quick gin and water" before returning home. One of the first licensees was one George Turner. Designed in the grand Victorian style, this imposing red brick building with stucco ornaments was for many years a "rough Irish pub" until its gentrification in the early 2000s. The System is an American synth-pop duo that debuted in the 1980s, composed of vocalist-guitarist Mic Murphy and seasoned session keyboardist David Frank. The band was founded in 1982 in New York and backed up by Paul Pesco on electric guitar and Kris Khellow on keyboards and synthesizers. The group is sometimes referred to as being "emotio-electro" because of its hi-tech, synthesizer-driven sound, married with passionate vocals and sensitive lyrics. "Don't Lose My Number" is a song by Phil Collins from his third solo album '' No Jacket Required''. The single was not released in the UK, though it peaked at No. 4 in the U.S. in September 1985. The B-side, "We Said Hello Goodbye" was released as a bonus track on the CD for ''No Jacket Required''. In Australia, the single was released with the title "(Billy) Don't Lose My Number". David Martin Frank (born November 13, 1957) is an American music producer, composer, classically trained pianist, and founding member of the 1980s R&B group the System. Yamaha Music calls him "the founding father of electronic R&B." Early life and education Frank grew up in the Boston suburb of Weston, Massachusetts and played classical piano at a recital level from a young age. By fifth grade he had won his first composing competition. In high school, Frank played in rock bands hired for dances and competed, often successfully, in talent shows and battle of the band contests. He attributes his fluency with soul and R&B music to an early encounter he had with a singer he met at one such contest. The singer was later incorporated as a member of his band. Hugh Charles Padgham (born 15 February 1955) is an English record producer and audio engineer. He has won four Grammy Awards, for Producer of the Year and Album of the Year for 1985, Record of the Year for 1990, and Engineer of the Year for 1993. Funk is a music genre that originated in African Americans, African American communities in the mid-1960s when musicians created a rhythmic, danceable new form of music through a mixture of various music genres that were popular among African Americans in the mid-20th century.
