Susie Jessen
Susie Jessen (born 1985) is a Danish politician and journalist. Since 2022 she has been a member of the Folketing for the Denmark Democrats and represents the Zealand (Folketing constituency), Zealand constituency. Biography Jessen was born in 1985 and is the daughter of politician Søren Espersen. She graduated with a diploma in journalism in 2010 and worked as a political reporter and a communications consultant for the Danish Chamber of Commerce. She later worked as a political consultant for Kristian Thulesen Dahl and was a press officer for the Danish People's Party. For the 2022 Danish general election, Jessen was elected to the Folketing as a member of the Denmark Democrats. The Folketing ( , ), also known as the Parliament of Denmark or the Danish Parliament in English, is the unicameral national legislature (parliament) of the Kingdom of Denmark — Denmark proper together with the Faroe Islands and Greenland. Established in 1849, the Folketing was the lower house of the bicameral parliament called the Rigsdag until 1953; the upper house was the Landsting. The Folketing meets in Christiansborg Palace, on the islet of Slotsholmen in central Copenhagen. It passes all laws, approves the cabinet, and supervises the work of the government. 2022 Danish General Election
General elections were held in the Danish Realm, Kingdom of Denmark on 1 November 2022, except in the Faroe Islands, where they were held on 31 October as 1 November was a national day of mourning for victims at sea. Of the 179 members of the Folketing, 175 were elected in Denmark proper, two in the Faroes and two in Greenland. The elections were called on 5 October following an ultimatum to the government by the Danish Social Liberal Party, Social Liberals (which had been providing external support) due to the outcome of a report on the 2020 Danish mink cull by the Mink Commission, which was critical of the government. Voter turnout was 84% in Denmark, 48% in Greenland, and 71% in the Faroes, with a combined turnout of 84% for the realm as a whole. Søren Espersen (born 20 July 1953) is a Danish politician, journalist, and author, who is a member of the Folketing for the Denmark Democrats. Espersen was originally elected for the Danish People's Party in 2005, and was the party's foreign affairs spokesperson. He is a former chairman of Udenrigspolitisk Nævn. In 2022, he switched affiliation to the Denmark Democrats and was re-elected to the Folketing. Political career Espersen was a candidate for the Progress Party from 1992 to 1995.
