Susanne Schaper
Susanne Schaper (born 17 January 1978 in Chemnitz) is a German politician from Die Linke. She is an elected member of the Landtag of Saxony. Life Schaper's parents were both members of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED), and has faced discrimination because of this fact. From 1994, she completed vocational training as a nurse and is working in her profession. From 2011 to 2018, she studied nursing management alongside her job. As a nurse, she regularly takes part in excursions to Vietnam with the DEVIEMED association, which operates on children with malformations there. Schaper lives in Chemnitz, is married and has three children. Political career In 1994, Susanne Schaper became a member of the Party of Democratic Socialism (PDS) and has since held various offices within and the Chemnitz city association. 2024 Saxony State Election
The next election to the Landtag of Saxony is scheduled for 1 September 2024. Background The 2019 election was marked by high gains for the AfD, which gained almost 28 percent of the vote and became the second strongest force. After losses, the CDU ended up with almost 32 percent as the strongest party ahead of the AfD. The Left and the SPD received 10.4 and 7.7 percent of the vote, respectively. In Germany, the state list or state electoral proposal, ( ''German'': Landesliste or Landeswahlvorschlag) is the list of candidates of a party for the election to the Bundestag, or the elections to those state parliaments with mixed-member proportional representation and for the European Parliament elections if a party decides on a state rather than a federal list. 2019 Saxony State Election
The 2019 Saxony state election was held on 1 September 2019 to elect the members of the 7th Landtag of Saxony. The outgoing government was a grand coalition of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and Social Democratic Party (SPD) led by Minister-President Michael Kretschmer. The CDU, SPD, and The Left suffered heavy losses. The Alternative for Germany (AfD) moved into second place with 27.5% of votes, an increase of almost 18 percentage points. The Left fell from second to third place, underperforming opinion polls with 10%. The Greens recorded an improvement to 8.6%, but also fared more poorly than expected. The SPD fell to fifth place with 8%. The election saw a major increase in voter turnout, rising from less than half in 2014 to 66.5% in 2019.
