Susan Walker (born 1948) is an archaeologist specialising in the study of Roman art. She was previously the Keeper of Antiquities and is currently an Honorary Curator of the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford. Early life and education As an undergraduate, Walker excavated at Gravina di Puglia and Melfi. Walker undertook doctoral work at the British School at Athens. Career In 1977, she joined the British Museum. In the 1990s she was Senior Curator of Mediterranean Roman Antiquities. Susan Grimes Walker (May 9, 1871 – January 20, 1943) is best known for her long commitment to women's suffrage, and for her involvement in progressive political organizations. In 1923, she became one of the first two women elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Biography She was born on May 9, 1871, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to Rear Admiral John Grimes Walker, USN and Rebecca White Pickering. Her father was a Civil War veteran, having served at the Siege of Vicksburg, ''inter alia''. Her mother was from the prominent Pickering family of Salem, Massachusetts. Following the advice and encouragement of her cousin Alice Gould who graduated from Bryn Mawr College in 1889, she enrolled at Bryn Mawr and graduated with a degree in political science and history in 1893. Susan Kathryn Lalic (née Walker; born 28 October 1965) is an English chess player, holding both International Master (IM) and Woman Grandmaster (WGM) titles. She is five-time British Women's Chess Champion: 1986, 1990–1992, and 1998. Lalic has played for England nine times in Chess Olympiads, from 1984 to 2000, inclusive. From 1986 to 1998, she played on the top board. She was the Fifth Women's Commonwealth Champion in 1987, the contest having been incorporated into the Lloyd's Bank Congress of that year.
