Surya Malla
Surya Malla was a king of the Malla dynasty and the second king of Kantipur. He succeeded his father Ratna Malla and ruled from 1520 to 1530. Reign According to the Bhāsāvamsävali and Padmagiri's Vamsävali, he captured Sankhu and made it his capital. In 1526, Mukunda Sen of Palpa attacked the entire Kathmandu valley and at one time had surrounded both Kantipur, and Patan. Kantipur (from kanti ''light'', pur ''city'') was a medieval kingdom in the Malla confederacy of Nepal. The name of the kingdom was derived from the Sanskrit name of its capital city, now known as Kathmandu. The Kingdom of Palpa ( ne, पाल्पा राज्य) was a petty kingdom in the confederation of 24 states known as Chaubisi Rajya. Palpa became part of the Kingdom of Nepal after Prime Minister Bhimsen Thapa ordered the beheading of Prithivipal Sen, King of Palpa. Sankhu
Sankhu (साखु) (alternative name: Sakwa (Nepal Bhasa: सक्व)) is the ancient Newar town located in the north-eastern corner of Kathmandu Valley which is about 17 km from the city center of Kathmandu. Sankhu was formerly divided into three Village Development Committee, namely, Pukhulachhi, Suntol and Bajrayogini. Recently the town of Sankhu has been declared as Shankharapur Municipality merging three above-mentioned VDCs and other neighbouring VDCs. At the time of the 2011 Nepal census it had a population of 4333 living in 928 individual households. Sankhu lies between river Salinakhu (also Salinadi) in east and Asakhu in the west. Ratna Malla
Ratna Malla was the first independent king of Kantipur. He was one of the six sons of Jayayakshya Malla. On the death of his father in 1482, he and his brothers attempted to rule collegially. However, Ratna Malla decided to become an independent ruler and created the Kingdom of Kantipur, with its capital in Kathmandu, in 1484. He was the first Nepalese king to invite Kashmiri Muslim traders to Kathmandu.
