''Surrender'' is a 1927 American silent romantic drama film directed by Edward Sloman and written by Charles Kenyon, Edward J. Montagne and Albert DeMond. It is based on the 1915 play ''Lea Lyon'' by Alexander Brody. The film stars Mary Philbin, Ivan Mosjukine, Otto Matieson, Nigel De Brulier, Otto Fries, and Daniel Makarenko. The film was released on November 3, 1927, by Universal Pictures. Mary Philbin
Mary Loretta Philbin (July 16, 1902 – May 7, 1993) was an American film actress of the silent film era, who played Christine Daaé in the 1925 film ''The Phantom of the Opera '' opposite Lon Chaney, and Dea in ''The Man Who Laughs'' alongside Conrad Veidt. Early life Philbin was born on July 16, 1902 in Chicago, Illinois, into a middle-class, Irish-American family and raised Catholic. She was an only child, and was named after her mother, Mary. Her father, John Philbin, was born in Ballinrobe, County Mayo, Ireland, and had emigrated to America in 1900. Career Philbin began her acting career after winning a beauty contest sponsored by Universal Pictures in Chicago. After she moved to California, Erich von Stroheim signed her to a contract with Universal, deeming her a "Universal Super Jewel." John Bleifer
John Melvin Bleifer (July 26, 1901 – January 24, 1992) was an American actor whose career began at the end of the silent film era, and lasted through the mid-1980s. He appeared in feature films and film serials, and in a number of television series and miniseries. Bleifer also acted on stage, and appeared in several Broadway productions. Life and career Over the course of his career, he would appear in well over 100 films, serials, television shows and Broadway plays. His European accent allowed him to play several different nationalities, while using essentially the same accent. Bleifer did not make many silent films, but his career took off in 1933, after the advent of sound pictures. The 1940s saw Bleifer's career continue on the same path he had taken in the prior decade. Lassie Lou Ahern
Lassie Lou Ahern (June 25, 1920 – February 15, 2018) was an American actress. Originally discovered by Will Rogers, she was best known for her role as Little Harry in the 1927 silent film ''Uncle Tom's Cabin'' and also for her recurring appearances in the ''Our Gang'' films. Except for "Baby Peggy", Ahern was the last living performer who had a substantial career during Hollywood's silent era. Early life Ahern was born on June 25, 1920, in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of Fred and Elizabeth Wilson Ahern. She was the third in a family of four children; one of her siblings was Peggy Ahern. Career Ahern got her acting career started in 1923 in the silent film ''The Call of the Wild'', produced by Hal Roach. It was the first full-length motion picture made at his studio.
