Surkhab River
The Surkhab, also known as the Surkh Rud, is a river in Afghanistan, which flows in the provinces of Paktia and Nangarhar. It is a tributary of the Kabul River, which in turn is a tributary of Pakistan's Indus River. Course The river rises in the district of Azra in the far north of Paktia Province, but for most of its course flows in the province of Nangarhar. It gives its name to the district of Surkh Rod. The river flows north-east, then east, to the north of the western part of the Safed Koh mountains, from which it receives meltwater from glaciers. Paktia Province
Paktia (Pashto – ''Paktyā'') is one of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan, located in the east of the country. Forming part of the larger Loya Paktia region, Paktia Province is divided into 15 districts and has a population of roughly 623,000, which is mostly a tribal society living in rural areas. Azra District
Azra District is a district of Logar Province, Afghanistan. It is located in the eastern part of the district and is from the capital Kabul. The district is geographically mountainous and produces a large amount of hashish. History The area was used by Afghan mujahideen groups during the Soviet–Afghan War as there is a direct route to the country's capital of Kabul, which is away.
