Super J-Cup: 1st Stage was the first Super J-Cup professional wrestling professional wrestling tournament, tournament hosted by New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW). The event took place on April 16, 1994, at Ryōgoku Kokugikan, Sumo Hall in Tokyo, Japan. The tournament featured fourteen Cruiserweight (professional wrestling), junior heavyweight wrestlers and was created by Jushin Liger, Jushin Thunder Liger and was the first NJPW event to feature only junior heavyweight wrestlers. The event received critical acclaim and commercial success, leading to Japanese promotions hosting more editions of the tournament, leading to the event being renamed the ''Super J-Cup: 1st Stage'' in later years. Wrestle Association R (formerly known as Wrestle and Romance and abbreviated as WAR) was a Japanese professional wrestling promotion founded and run by Genichiro Tenryu as the successor to Super World of Sports, and which lasted from 1992 to 2000. As a wrestler, Gedo is best known for his tag team work with partner Jado, forming a very successful tag team from 1990 through the mid-2010s. Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling is a Japanese professional wrestling promotion founded on July 28, 1989, by Atsushi Onita as (FMW). is a Japanese actor, politician, and semi-retired professional wrestler. He is best known for his work in Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling (FMW) and is credited with introducing Japan to the deathmatch style of professional wrestling. He founded FMW in 1989 to defeat Masashi Aoyagi under his own rules and made it a full-fledged organization after his deathmatch style became popular with the Japanese fans.
