Sunshine Coast Light Rail
The Sunshine Coast Light Rail is a proposed light rail system for the Sunshine Coast region of Queensland, Australia. The light rail system would link Maroochydore with Caloundra via Mooloolaba and Kawana and was planned to bring a frequent, high-quality light rail service to meet the region's predicted growth. The system underwent feasibility studies in 2015. The proposal has not been welcomed by all members of the community with many people believing the project threatens the region's laidback coastal lifestyle. History The Sunshine Coast Council reviewed and supported the findings of a pre-feasibility study. In August 2012, the council gave the go-ahead for a full feasibility study to be undertaken. The Sunshine Coast Line is the current marketing name of what originally was the Tendring Hundred Railway, a branch off the Great Eastern Main Line in the East of England. It links to the seaside resorts of and, via a branch, . The line is part of the Network Rail Strategic Route 7, SRS 07.08, and is classified as a London & South East commuter line. Passenger services on the line are currently operated by Greater Anglia. The Sunshine Coast Region is a local government area located in the Sunshine Coast region of South East Queensland, Australia, from which it takes its name. The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR), is a department of the Queensland Government. TMR was formed in April 2009 by merging Queensland Transport and the Department of Main Roads. Beerwah railway station is a heritage-listed railway station on the North Coast line in Queensland, Australia. It serves the town of Beerwah in the Sunshine Coast Region. The Maroochydore railway line, also known as the Direct Sunshine Coast Rail Line or CAMCOS (Caloundra and Maroochydore Corridor Options Study), is a proposed railway line on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia. Planning history Initial public consultation was conducted in January 1999, with newsletters and displays of aerial photographs.
