Sunsets For Somebody Else
"Sunsets for Somebody Else" is a song by American singer-songwriter Jack Johnson. The song is the second single from the album ''All the Light Above It Too'', and was released on August 3, 2017. The song currently has over 50 million streams on Spotify. Composition Johnson wrote this song while he was on a surf trip in Micronesia, and says "Something about being on boats always pulls songs out of me." ''Billboard'' says that Johnson's lines such as, "You tell yourself just to turn away/but you know you've already lost" and "I know I've seen that vacant stare/selling sunsets for somebody else" have a soothing tinge unlike other Johnson songs. Other lines such as "You find yourself looking up at night, from the bottom of the earth" are supposed to capture the listener, and make them feel like they are on a beach on a hot summer day. The recording displays a very big instrumentation of the music he recorded that launched his career in 1999. The song is one of three songs to be releas ...

Composition Brushfire Records originally made a deal with Johnson to release a new album every two years, which set the release date for November 2015. The song was written during the filming of the movie ''The Smog of the Sea''. It first started off as a small jam session between the crew, and is featured in the movie. As Jack talked about in a "Billboard" Podcast, he didn't know that he was starting the creation of an album with this song. It was not until he wrote "Subplots" (Which was also written during ...

E. Studwell and D. F. Alternative Rock
Alternative rock (also known as alternative music, alt-rock or simply alternative) is a category of rock music that evolved from the independent music underground of the 1970s. Alternative rock acts achieved mainstream success in the 1990s with the likes of the grunge, shoegaze, and Britpop subgenres in the United States and United Kingdom, respectively. During this period, many record labels were looking for "alternatives", as many corporate rock, hard rock, and glam metal acts from the 1980s were beginning to grow stale throughout the music industry. The emergence of Generation X as a cultural force in the 1990s also contributed greatly to the rise of alternative rock. "Alternative" refers to the genre's distinction from mainstream or commercial rock or pop. The term's original meaning was broader, referring to musicians influenced by the musical style or independent, DIY ethos of late-1970s punk rock.di Perna, Alan. "Brave Noise—The History of Alternative Rock Gu ...

My Mind Is For Sale
"My Mind Is for Sale" is a song by American musician Jack Johnson. The song was released on July 14, 2017, and is the lead single for his seventh studio album ''All the Light Above It Too''. Production The song, and album was produced by long time companion with Jack Johnson, Robbie Lackritz, and recorded at "Mango Tree Studio." The song and album were mostly inspired by the sayings of Donald Trump, surfing, and camping. Also, Johnson had just recently worked on the short documentary, "Smog of the Sea," and released his song "Fragments." The documentary took a one-week journey through the sea to study animals, and sea creatures. This got Johnson thinking about what Trump has said about pollution and global warming, and has also included this in his album. Meaning Johnson says that the song is generally about Trump trying to put up a border wall in between the United States and Mexico. The song also talks about Trump's general attitude during the election. Release The song ...

You Can't Control It
"You Can't Control It" is a song by American musician Jack Johnson from his 2017 album ''All the Light Above It Too''. The song was released on August 25, 2017, and is the third single from the album. The song was written about the pollution in the ocean and on beaches. The song originated from a jam that Jack played the drums in with Zach Gill in his garage. Jack then decided to play the riff for his producer Robbie Lackritz to see if it should be featured on the album. Lackritz said the drum beat sounded like "Any other 90's song." They changed the 90's drum beat to many different beats by layering them together. Release The song's music video was released exclusively on ''Entertainment Weekly'' on August 24, 2017. The music video features a time-lapse of Johnson and volunteer workers at a beach in Hawaii collecting plastic within a 90-meter radius, and turning it into art. The art is also featured as his album cover on ''All the Light Above It Too''. The video was then release ...
