Sune Sandström
Sune Olof Hilding Sandström (26 June 1939 – 22 October 2011) was a Swedish police officer. He was Chief of the Swedish Security Service from 1987 to 1989. Early life Sandström was born on 26 June 1939 in Nyhem, Bräcke Municipality, Sweden, the son of merchant Olof Sandström and his wife Frida (née Sandelin). He grew up in Gäddede and passed ''studentexamen'' in Östersund. Career After becoming a reserve officer, he was admitted to the district police superintendent (''landsfiskal'') education and obtained a district prosecutor's degree in Stockholm in 1965. He underwent police chief training in Stockholm in 1966. The same year, Sandström worked as a police secretary at the Swedish National Police Board. He was then secretary at Jämtland County Council from 1967 to 1969 and police secretary in Östersund from 1969-1971. Stig Bergling
Stig Svante Eugén Bergling, later Stig Svante ''Eugén'' Sandberg and ''Stig'' Svante Eugén Sydholt, (1 March 1937 – 24 January 2015) was a Swedish Security Service officer who spied for the Soviet Union. The Stig Bergling-affair, one of Sweden's greatest spy scandals, began when he was arrested in Israel in 1979 by Israeli counterintelligence and in the same year in Sweden was sentenced to life imprisonment for aggravated espionage. He escaped in 1987, with the assistance of his then–wife Elisabeth Sjögren during a conjugal visit, and fled to Moscow. Bergling's escape was a major embarrassment for Sweden's liberal prison system and prompted the resignation of the justice minister. Bergling lived for several years in the Soviet Union, Hungary and Lebanon until, for health reasons, he voluntarily returned to Sweden in 1994. Jan Oskar Sverre Lucien Henri Guillou (, ; born 17 January 1944) is a French-Swedish author and journalist. Guillou's fame in Sweden was established during his time as an investigative journalist, most notably in 1973 when he and co-reporter Peter Bratt exposed a secret, immoral and illegal intelligence organization in Sweden, ''Informationsbyrån'' (IB). The Carl Hamilton novels is a book series by Swedish author and journalist Jan Guillou centered on the fictional Swedes, Swedish spy Carl Gustaf Gilbert Hamilton. The main character is an elite military officer working for the Swedish Security agency and Intelligence agency during the end of the Cold War, residing in Stockholm but active internationally.
