Sumy Company (Ukraine)
The Sumy Company is a company of the Special Tasks Patrol Police subordinated to Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. The company is based in Sumy. It was established in 2014 in the wake of the War in Donbass and has, since then seen regular combat on the frontlines. History Following the Revolution of Dignity, 30 additional special police units were established amidst the 2014 pro-Russian unrest in Ukraine. On 16 April 2014, it was established as the Sumy Battalion. Its main tasks became the protection of public order in Sumy Oblast as well as in the ATO zone. The Sumy Oblast Council allocated 1 million hryvnias for the purchase of uniforms and shoes, radio communication equipment, body armor and special equipment of the battalion. The battalion's personnel conducted theoretical and practical training including shooting and combat coordination. The Special Police Forces () is a Ukrainian volunteer corps of law enforcement units, part of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. History In April 2014, Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov issued an order to create battalions of special purpose within the Ministry of Internal Affairs structure. Their goal was to protect public order and important facilities across Ukraine, but all of these units were eventually sent to the east to counter Russian aggression. After the reformation of National Police in 2015, the units were reformed as Special Task Patrol Police units. Anti-Terrorist Operation Zone (), or ATO zone (), was a term used by the media, public, the government of Ukraine, and the OSCE and other foreign institutions to identify Ukrainian territory of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions (oblasts) under the control of Russian military forces and pro-Russian separatists. A significant part of ATO (JFO, starting 2018) zone was considered temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine. Sumy Oblast
Sumy Oblast (), also known as Sumshchyna (), is an oblast (province) in northeast Ukraine. The oblast was created in its modern-day form, from the merging of raions from Kharkiv Oblast, Chernihiv Oblast, and Poltava Oblast in 1939 by the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union.
