Summit Hill, Saint Paul
Summit Hill is a neighborhood and city planning district in Saint Paul, Minnesota, in the United States. The neighborhood, which is also District 16, is an approximately 75 square block area bounded by Summit Avenue on the north, Interstate 35E on the south and east, and Ayd Mill Road on the west. The neighborhood is known for having one of the best preserved collections of old, Victorian homes in the United States. In 1862 steam boat mogul James C. Burbank built an Italianate mansion on the east side of the neighborhood. Another prominent home in the area is an 1889 row house that was a former residence of novelist F. Scott Fitzgerald. The Minnesota Governor's Residence, originally constructed in 1912 by Horace Hills Irvine, is also located in Summit Hill. Interstate 35 (I-35) is a major Interstate Highway in the central United States. As with most primary Interstates that end in a five, it is a major cross-country, north–south route. It stretches from Laredo, Texas, near the Mexican border to Duluth, Minnesota, at Minnesota State Highway 61 (MN 61, London Road) and 26th Avenue East. Ayd Mill Road
Ayd Mill Road ( ) is a road in Saint Paul, Minnesota. It runs diagonally through Saint Paul, connecting with Interstate 35E at its southeast terminus, and feeds into Selby Avenue at its northwest end. Indirect access to I-94 is possible via Selby and Snelling Avenues. Originally known as the Short Line Road, it was renamed in 1987 for John Ayd, a German settler who maintained a mill and residence in the area in the mid-to-late 19th century. Burbank–Livingston–Griggs House
The Burbank–Livingston–Griggs House is the second-oldest house on Summit Avenue in Saint Paul, Minnesota, United States. It was designed in Italianate style by architect Otis L. Wheelock of Chicago and built from 1862 to 1863. The work was commissioned by James C. Burbank, a wealthy owner of the Minnesota Stage Company. Macalester-Groveland is a neighborhood and city planning district in Saint Paul, Minnesota in the United States. It is Saint Paul Planning District 14. The neighborhood is bounded by the Mississippi River on the west, Summit Avenue on the north, Ayd Mill Road on the east, and Randolph Avenue on the south. The district contains Macalester College and the smaller neighborhood of Tangletown, as well as many homes, restaurants, and shops. Neighborhood residents are more likely to be politically liberal. The neighborhood has a suburban feel, but it is a densely built environment with restaurants, coffee shops, and local bars. Saint Paul, Minnesota, consists of 17 officially defined city districts or neighborhoods. In its history, the city has been called "fifteen small towns with one mayor", owing to the neighborhood-based life of much of the city, though the city is partially governed by not 15 but 17 City Districts. On Saint Paul's largely blue-collar East Side alone there are more than two dozen well-known, historically significant neighborhoods within four City Districts. District 4, for example, has three historic neighborhoods: Dayton's Bluff, Swede Hollow, and Mounds Park. The most populous districts, 2 and 5, have more than a dozen neighborhoods between them.
