Sumbal Khan
Sumbal Khan (Urdu, Pashto: ; 1926 – December 2007) was a Pakistani footballer who played as a centre-half. He was the sixth captain in the history of the Pakistan national football team after Osman Jan, Abdul Wahid Durrani, Muhammad Sharif, Moideen Kutty and Jamil Akhtar. Khan also played for East Bengal in India. Early life Khan hailed from Peshawar in the North West Frontier Province in British India. Club career Khan played as a centre-back, starting his career at Peshawar club Warsak FC, He played for them till the late 60s.He was among the players who played in the inaugural National Football Championship of Pakistan at YMCA Ground in Karachi in 1948. National Football Championship (Pakistan)
The National Football Championship alternatively spelled National Soccer Championship was the men's highest level football competition from 1948 to 2003. Founded by the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) in 1948, it was mainly held on knock-out basis. It was eventually replaced by the Pakistan Premier League from the 2004–05 season in order to professionalize the sport in Pakistan. Until 1971, it was run in parallel with the Dhaka League in East Pakistan. The National Football League era though saw Karachi based Pakistan Airlines with most championships, winning the competition nine times. The 1953 Asian Quadrangular Football Tournament was the second edition of the Asian Quadrangular Football Tournament held in Rangoon, Burma. India won the cup for a second time by winning all thee matches. It was India's first outright win in an international football tournament played abroad. The 1952 Asian Quadrangular Football Tournament was the first edition of the Asian Quadrangular Football Tournament held in Colombo, Ceylon. India and Pakistan were declared as the joint winners. Overview The 1952 Asian Quadrangular Football Tournament was the inaugural edition of the competition. It was held at the Colombo Oval in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), with the opening ceremony officiated by Sir Alan Rose.
