Sultan Hassan Secondary School
Sultan Hassan Secondary School (; ) is a government secondary school located in Kampong Batu Apoi of Temburong District, Brunei. It is the only secondary school in the district, and the first school in the district to offer adult education in 1968. History In 1962, the school was first founded as Sultan Hassan Malay School (SMSH) in the Bruneian town of Bangar, named after Sultan Muhammad Hasan. A hostel planned and then under construction was delayed in 1967. As of that same year, the school only has two classes and was under the leadership of the acting principal of (First Malay Secondary School). In , it was renamed to Sultan Hassan Malay Secondary School. The school moved to a new building, which was built around 1984 and began operation in 1986. Beginning on 1 March 2023, classes would be held in the new Sultan Hassan Secondary School facility in Kampong Batu Apoi. Kampong Batu Apoi is a village in Temburong District, Brunei, about East from the district town Bangar. The population was 106 in 2016. It is one of the villages within Mukim Batu Apoi. The postcode is PC1151. Name Sungai Batu Apoi is where Batu Apoi gets its name. Long ago, there was a Murut longhouse there beside the river. Their myth states that a hot rock that was formerly upstream gave Batu Apoi its name. The presence of this rock rendered the entire area inhospitable and unusable to humans. Suddenly a Murut cultural hero appeared one day. He looked at the fiery rock and then tossed it into the sea far away with all of his might. He therefore made the entire region livable and secure so that the Muruts may settle there and live. A surau is an Islamic assembly building in some regions of Sumatra and the Malay Peninsula used for worship and religious instruction. Generally smaller physical structures, its ritual functions are similar to a mosque, allow men and women, and are used more for religious instruction and festive prayers. A football pitch (also known as soccer field) is the playing surface for the game of association football.
