Sultan Günal-Gezer (born 1 May 1961) is a Dutch politician of Turkish descent. As a member of the Labour Party (Partij van de Arbeid) she was a member of the House of Representatives between 8 November 2012 and 23 March 2017. An alderman is a member of a municipal assembly or council in many jurisdictions founded upon English law with similar officials existing in the Netherlands (wethouder) and Belgium (schepen). The term may be titular, denoting a high-ranking member of a borough or county council, a council member chosen by the elected members themselves rather than by popular vote, or a council member elected by voters. Etymology The title is derived from the Old English title of ''ealdorman'', which literally means "elder person", and which was used by the chief nobles presiding over shires.
