There were attempts by boxing promoters in the 1920s to establish this weight class, but few sanctioning organizations or state athletic commissions would recognize it. Kim Ji-won (boxer)
Kim Ji-won (Hangul: 김지원, Hanja: 金知元; born 6 August 1959 in Seoul) is a former South Korean boxer who was an unbeaten world champion in the super bantamweight division. He is one of just fifteen world boxing champions to retire without a loss. Amateur career Kim began garnering attention in 1978 when he won the flyweight (-51 kg) gold medal at the Asian Junior Amateur Boxing Championships in Karachi, Pakistan. In 1979, Kim won the gold medal in the flyweight division at the CISM Amateur Boxing Championships in Caracas, Venezuela, beating Oudahi Mohammad Amin of Algeria via first-round knockout in the final bout. In February 1980, Kim participated in the Asian Amateur Boxing Championships held in Bombay, India. There he captured the gold medal in the flyweight division. Bobby Berna
Bobby Berna (born May 19, 1961 in the Philippines) is a retired Filipino boxer. Professional career After turning professional in 1979 he had compiled a record of 23-2-1 in 4 years before travelling to Los Angeles in 1983 to challenge Jaime Garza for the vacant WBC super bantamweight title. He was stopped by Garza in the second round and missed out on the opportunity to become champion. He rebounded by beating Suh Sung-in for the newly created IBF's inaugural super bantamweight championship. He would lose the title in his first defense in a rematch to Suh four months later. He would have his final title shot against Kim Ji-Won but would be unsuccessful, he would end up retiring from he sport in 1988.
