Sugar Creek is a waterway located in the U.S. state of Indiana. It originates in a farm field approximately two miles south of Kempton, Indiana, and travels west-southwest for about U.S. Geological Survey. The largest community on the waterway is Crawfordsville. Sugar Creek flows through two Indiana state parks, Shades and Turkey Run, and is a popular tourist and canoeist attraction. Sugar Creek Gang is a series of 36 Christian-themed children's literature books written by Paul Hutchens.Brett, Jennifer (14 November 2004). "Sunny films bring young talent to light", ''The Atlanta Journal-Constitution'', p. JJ1. The original series is set near Thorntown, Indiana, and named for the nearby Sugar Creek, based upon the formative years of Paul and his six brothers, and chronicles adventure situations told from a faith-based didactic perspective. The first book, ''The Sugar Creek Gang,'' was published in 1940; the final installment, ''The Brown Box Mystery'', appeared in 1970. During the 1950s, Hutchens received oral and written feedback from his readers "that they practically grew up on Sugar Creek books as their main reading diet during juvenile days." Turkey Run State Park
Turkey Run State Park, Indiana's second state park, is in Parke County in the west-central part of the state along State Road 47, east of U.S. 41. The first parcel of land was purchased for $40,200 in 1916, when Indiana's state park system was established during the state's centennial anniversary of its statehood. The origin of the name "Turkey Run" is unknown, but the most accepted theory is that wild turkeys would congregate for warmth in the gorges (or "runs"), where early settlers could easily trap and hunt them.
