Suchitra Mitra
Suchitra Mitra (19 September 1924 – 3 January 2011) was an Indian singer, composer, artist exponent of Rabindra Sangeet or the songs of Bengal's poet laureate Rabindranath Tagore, professor, and the first woman Sheriff of Kolkata. As an academic, she remained a professor and the Head of ''Rabindra Sangeet Department'' at the Rabindra Bharati University until 1984. Mitra was a playback singer in Bengali films (and acted in some as well) and was associated for many years with the Indian People's Theatre Association. Mitra studied at the Scottish Church College, the University of Calcutta and at Visva-Bharati University in West Bengal, India. She was also the Sheriff of Kolkata (2001). After prolonged illness Mitra died of a cardiac ailment on 3 January 2011, in Kolkata. Rabindra Nritya Natya is the group of four dance-dramas composed by Bengal's Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore: ''Chitrangada'', ''Chandalika'', ''Shyama and Shrabangatha''.History of Bengali Literature, Dr. Dulal Chakraborty, July 2007, Bani Bitan. . ''The Indian Express'' is an English-language Indian daily newspaper founded in 1932 by P. Varadarajulu Naidu. It is headquartered in Noida, owned by the ''Indian Express Group''. Sailajaranjan Majumdar
Sailajaranjan Majumdar (19 July 1900 – 24 May 1992) was a distinguished exponent and teacher of Rabindra Sangeet. Early life The son of Ramanikishore and Saralasundari Majumdar, Sailajaranjan was born at Baham, Netrokona, now in Bangladesh, on 19 July 1900. He passed matriculation from Dutta High School in Netrakona, in 1919, I Sc from Metropolitan College and B Sc from Scottish Church College. Although he had an aptitude for both vocal and instrumental music from childhood he followed his father's wishes. In 1924, he stood first in M Sc chemistry from the University of Calcutta and worked for a short period as a lecturer in Asutosh College. Santidev Ghosh
Santidev Ghose (also Santidev Ghosh, Shantidev Ghosh and Santideb Ghosh; 7 May 1910 – 1 December 1999) was an Indian author, singer, actor, dancer and maestro of Rabindra Sangeet. Sagarmoy Ghosh, the renowned editor of Bengali literary journal ''Desh'', was his younger brother. As a teenager, Ghosh was selected by Rabindranath Tagore to be a teacher in Santiniketan and sent across India and even to Sri Lanka, Java and Bali to further his musical education for that purpose. Tagore also encouraged Ghosh to act and dance in the poet-laureate's dance dramas, for which Ghosh displayed an uncommon talent for singing, as well as dancing and acting. Indira Devi Chaudhurani
Indira Devi Chaudhurani (29 December 1873 – 12 August 1960) was an Indian literary figure, author and musician. Born to the Tagore family, Indira was the younger child of Satyendranath Tagore and Jnanadanandini Devi and younger sister of Surendranath Tagore. She is noted for her work in scoring the music for a number of songs by her uncle Rabindranath, with whom she was particularly close. Indira Devi Chaudhurani died in 1960.
