Succor Creek is a U.S. Geological Survey. The creek begins in the Owyhee Mountains in Owyhee County, Idaho. After flowing for about in Idaho, Succor Creek enters Malheur County, Oregon, where it flows for before re-entering Idaho for its final . It joins the Snake near Homedale, about 413 river miles (665 km) from the larger river's confluence with the Columbia River. Succor Creek State Natural Area is south of Nyssa along an unpaved road off Oregon Route 201. It has only primitive camping with no potable water. The canyon in which the natural area is located is known for fossils, geologic formations, and thundereggs, the Oregon state rock. Oregon Route 201
Oregon Route 201 is a north–south state highway in eastern Oregon. It currently runs from the Idaho state line just south of Adrian to Interstate 84 south of Huntington. Between the state line and Succor Creek Road, it is known the Homedale Spur No. 490. Between Succor Creek Road and Nyssa, it is known as the Succor Creek Highway No. 450 (see Oregon highways and routes), including the Homedale Spur of the same highway. Owyhee Desert
The Owyhee Desert ecoregion, within the deserts and xeric shrublands biome, is in the Northwestern United States. The Owyhee Uplands Byway passes through the desert. Geography An arid region of canyons, volcanic rock, sagebrush and grass makes up the ~ Owyhee Desert. The desert is in northern Nevada, southwestern Idaho and southeastern Oregon. It is located on the south edge of the Columbia Plateau southwest of Boise, Idaho, stretching east from the Santa Rosa Range. It has a mean elevation of approximately . The Owyhee Desert is primarily drained by the tributaries of the Bruneau River and Owyhee Rivers, which then flow into the Snake River. Management Most of the land in the desert is owned by the federal government and managed by the Bureau of Land Management. It is largely used as ranch land. Thunderegg
A thunderegg (or thunder egg) is a nodule-like rock, similar to a filled geode, that is formed within rhyolitic volcanic ash layers. Thundereggs are rough spheres, most about the size of a baseball—though they can range from a little more than a centimeter (one half inch) to over a meter (three feet) across. They usually contain centres of chalcedony which may have been fractured followed by deposition of agate, jasper or opal, either uniquely or in combination. Also frequently encountered are quartz and gypsum crystals, as well as various other mineral growths and inclusions. Thundereggs usually look like ordinary rocks on the outside, but slicing them in half and polishing them may reveal intricate patterns and colours. A characteristic feature of thundereggs is that (like other agates) the individual beds they come from can vary in appearance, though they can maintain a certain specific identity within them. Nyssa, Oregon
Nyssa is a city in Malheur County, Oregon, United States. The population was 3,267 at the 2010 census. The city is located along the Snake River on the Idaho border, in the region of far eastern Oregon known as the " Treasure Valley". It is part of the Ontario, OR–ID Micropolitan Statistical Area. The primary industry in the region is agriculture, including the cultivation of Russet potatoes, sugar beets, onions, corn, flower seed, mint, and wheat. The city's economy relies on the surrounding agricultural area with its several large onion and potato packaging plants. History The area surrounding the city was originally inhabited by Native Americans. Northern Paiute and Cayuse frequented the area but had difficulty living in the relatively harsh climate.
