Subterranea (album)
''Subterranea'' is a double album by British progressive rock band IQ, which was released in 1997. Story ''Subterranea'' is about a man who's been the subject of an experiment. He's been held captive, almost like sensory deprivation, throughout his whole life and he doesn't have any contact with the outside world (''Provider''). At the end of Provider, a grating sound is heard, which represents where he escapes or is let loose. It's not clear if he really escapes or is let out on purpose, as part of the experiment. Band members have given various explanations. Martin Orford explained, "As part of the experiment after all the sensory deprivation, he's let loose in the outside world. So he goes off into the outside world, all the time being monitored by these people.". Either way, what happens is the central character doesn't know why he is imprisoned. Double Album
A double album (or double record) is an audio album that spans two units of the primary medium in which it is sold, typically either records or compact disc. Sensory Deprivation
Sensory deprivation or perceptual isolation is the deliberate reduction or removal of stimuli from one or more of the senses. Simple devices such as blindfolds or hoods and earmuffs can cut off sight and hearing, while more complex devices can also cut off the sense of smell, touch, taste, thermoception (heat-sense), and the ability to know which way is down. Sensory deprivation has been used in various alternative medicines and in psychological experiments (e.g. with an isolation tank). When deprived of sensation, the brain attempts to restore sensation in the form of hallucinations. Mike Holmes (musician)
Michael James Holmes (born August 3, 1963) is a Canadian builder/contractor, businessman, investor, television host, and philanthropist. Background Mike Holmes learned his craft from his father, who started teaching him construction work when he was 6 years old. By the time he was 19, Holmes had started his first contracting company with a crew of 13 employees. At 21, Holmes founded his own renovation company. He has run two companies during his 20-year contracting career. He has three children: Amanda, Sherry, and Mike Jr., who have all appeared and worked on his shows. In 2006, Holmes started The Holmes Foundation after seeing a renovation that was so poorly done that he felt it was necessary for him to tear the house down and start again rather than try to repair the damage. Martin Orford
Martin Orford (born 10 June 1959, Bitterne, Southampton) is an English keyboard player best known as the founder of progressive rock bands IQ and Jadis. He also worked with former King Crimson, U.K. and Asia bassist John Wetton, and has released two solo albums, ''Classical Music and Popular Songs'' (2000) and ''The Old Road'' (2008). Orford appeared on two Big Big Train albums, '' Goodbye to the Age of Steam'' and '' English Boy Wonders''. Orford won the "Best Keyboard Player" category at the Best of the Year Classic Rock Society Award in 2004. Orford's most recent solo album, ''The Old Road'' (GEPCD1037), was released in October 2008. Progressive rock (shortened as prog rock or simply prog; sometimes conflated with art rock) is a broad genre of rock music that developed in the United Kingdom and United States through the mid- to late 1960s, peaking in the early 1970s. AllMusic (previously known as All-Music Guide and AMG) is an American online music database. It catalogs more than three million album entries and 30 million tracks, as well as information on musicians and bands.
